Makeup Review: Cover Girl Eye Enhancers Tropical Fusion

Jumping on the bright makeup bandwagon, Cover Girl has come out with a new eye shadow compact called Tropical Fusion. In fact, this is so new that I can’t even find it on the Cover Girl website.

This eye shadow compact consists of bright blue, green, orange and yellow/green eye shadow.

Normally, Cover Girl plays it safe with their choice in colors. Today, we’ll see if it was worth it for them to go outside of the box.

I found this compact at CVS Pharmacy on sale, but you can usually find it in most drug stores around the $5 or $6 mark.

Here’s what I thought of the Cover Girl Eye Enhancers Tropical Fusion compact:

Pros: The colors are very vibrant, at least in the packaging. The price is very good, especially for the amount of shadow you get (5.5 grams). It does come with a sponge makeup wand, if you like using that kind of makeup applicator. Also, the blue and green shadows went on very well.

Cons: The orange and light green/yellow shadows didn’t go on very well. In fact, the orange was almost invisible. It didn’t blend well with the other colors so that I had a hard time getting the orange to even show up.

Because I had a hard time blending this, the look I ended up with wasn’t what I wanted. It did look good, but it didn’t show the orange barely at all.

I guess I’m a bit confused by this compact. I have a different Cover Girl Eye Enhancers compact that I used in one of the Tutorial Tuesdays makeup tutorials, and that worked just fine. I think the problem here is the bright colors. Cover Girl just isn’t used to this concept, and their execution wasn’t great.

I don’t think this makeup is all bad. I still ended up with a pretty look even though I had trouble with the orange. I imagine that if I had used eye primer first, it would have worked better, but I shouldn’t have to.

While I had qualms with it, there were still some pros to the Cover Girl Eye Enhancers compact in Tropical Fusion, enough to warrant an alright grade:

You can pick up this compact in stores at drugstores and big box stores, or online at Drugstore.com and Amazon for $4.99 suggested retail price.

  1. Yeah, the orange didn’t show up for me either. I was interested that CG did something different than their usually thing, though.

  2. Right, Rachels! I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that had this problem. I do like their effort as well.

  3. I was surprised that Covergirl decided to do “bright”. The orange showed up on me but I wore it in the crease with a nude matte all over the lid. The pale green doesn’t work for me and doesn’t show. The other two shades do. The colors aren’t great nor are they horrible. They just look really bad together in my opinion. It doesn’t look bad on you, it is just I think they look better when used with other shades.Like the dark blue looks great with NARS Rated R.

It’s so weird, isn’t it? Cover Girl is normally pretty good with their eye shadow, but this time, not so much. Everyone I’ve talked to had some big trouble with it, like some colors just not showing up. Too bad, too.

  5. The best way to get colors to show up when they aren’t strong is to put a little water on the applicator or brush and rub the color into the applictor. At least it should show up more true to the pallette color. I do that often because my skin is kind of darker and bright colors don’t always work right in the first place.
