For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, summer is just about on us.  What does that mean for us?  Fun in the sun!  Heat!  Sweat!  (Wait, I shouldn’t be excited about that last one.)

Proper makeup and beauty is actually different in the summer compared to the other months.  If you want to do this right, then follow the steps below.

• Use suncreen! Be sure to slather on that suntan lotion as best you can.  If you don’t, you can get sunburned and raise your chance of skin cancer.  Nothing ruins your cuteness like cancer.  Remember to: Use at least SPF 30, Reapply Often, Put it on whenever you go outside, even if it’s foggy.
• Keep those sunglasses on! Not only will you avoid any squint-related headaches, you’ll be protecting your eyes from the harmful rays of the sun.
• Less is more with face makeup! The more you layer on the heavy foundation and powder, the more you’re going to sweat.  It’ll also clog your pores up something fierce, causing acne.  You’ll feel (and look) a lot better if you get lighter face makeup, or avoid it completely.
• Leave the dark makeup at home! Summer is all about the bright and sunny days.  Because of this, dark makeup just isn’t right (although there are some exceptions, such as a slight smoky eye at a night party.)  Keep your dark eye shadow and lipstick for when autumn rolls around. Instead, choose light and bright makeup looks for summer.
• Wear light colored clothes! Light clothes can do a lot of things for you in the summer.  They’ll keep you cool, and you’ll match your makeup better.  Not only that, the reflection of the light clothes onto your face with make your face look brighter and more awake.
• Smile! Smiling can really brighten up your whole face and make you look significantly better than you no doubt already are.
• Have Fun! Summer is all about fun.  Get out there, play in the water, make new friends, go for a picnic.  So what if you still have to work a 9 to 5 job?  There’s always evenings and the weekend!

Following these simple tips is sure to get you all ready for your summer.  I know I’m excited for it already, and I’m the one who wrote this.
