Dare to Wear: Green Eye Shadow, Nail Polish

Last week, we talked about wearing the color red and how that can affect how others see you. Color effects our emotions, whether we know it or not.

Green is going to have a lot different reaction than what you would get from red. So, before you put on that green eye shadow or nail polish, you should learn more about the emotions associated with it.

What we think of when we see the color green:

Growth
Renewal
Balance
Health
Nature
Earth
Calm
Generosity
“Going Green” and helping reverse global warming

Objects associated with the color green:

Plants and vegetation
Vegetables we love/hate to eat
Limes
Moss
Outdoors (look outside. Unless you live in a big metropolis, you probably see a lot of green.
Green lights on stop lights

In more ways than one, green is the complete opposite of red. Where red signaled danger, green signals relaxation. Red means stop, green means go. Not only that, red and green are actually complementary colors when it comes to the color wheel.

Since green tends to be a really calm color, it can be worn in just about any situation. Instead, you may want to forego super bright green eye shadow and nail polish when you want to be taken seriously (funeral, job interview, meeting the parents). Then again, that’s the case with nearly all bright makeup.

There are some times where green makeup is perfect for the situation, though.

You should wear green makeup when…

You’re going camping. If you’re the type of girl that just has to wear makeup at all times, this is a good time to go green. You’ll look like you’re at one with the nature surrounding you.
You’re attending a Going Green rally. Supporting the movement to stop global warming? If you go to an event, this is the perfect time to go green with your makeup as well. You’ll fit right in!
You’re on a fun, casual group date. Fun, relaxed dates are the perfect opportunity for green makeup. It will calm the attitude of the group and your date. It’ll show that you’re relaxed and ready for anything.

If you want to be seen as the flower child or a lover of nature, then green makeup is the way to go. Green eye shadow or nail polish will also have a calming effect on those around you.

Following the rules I’ve set out is a good idea, but you should always go by what you’re comfortable with. After all, rules are meant to be broken, right?

Just remember what green does to our emotions. When we see green, we think of different themes, like nature. Keep this in mind when you’re about to raise that eye shadow or nail polish brush, lady.
