Makeup Bag

When you start to really get into makeup, you’ll likely want to carry some around with you during the day.  But what do you choose?  What can’t you live without?

I like to carry a complete makeup kit with me in my purse wherever I go.  So, if I forget to put makeup on (the horror!) I can do up my face with what I’ve got in my bag.

Here are a few things you’ll definitely want to bring with you:

  1. A small, compact mirror.  You need to see yourself after all.
  2. Eye liner.
  3. Mascara.
  4. Any hair binders or clips for those sudden bad hair days.
  5. Lip gloss/balm

But there are a lot of other things you can bring as well.

My Makeup Bag – Deconstructed

I can’t really talk about makeup bags if I don’t show you my own!  Here’s a picture so you can get a good idea of what I’ve got:

Oooh, look at all that stuff!

  1. Bonnebell EyeStyle Precise Liner in Charcoal Grey
  2. Bonnebell EyeStyle Mascara in Basic Black
  3. Medium Eye Shadow Brush
  4. Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Cherry Bomb
  5. Some cute colored hair binders (for emergencies!)
  6. Claire’s Eye Shadow Pallet
  7. Claire’s Eye Shadow and Lip Gloss Pallet
  8. Super cute makeup bag I got at Urban Outfitters.  It’s soft and black with diamond shapes.

Since my makeup bag gets pretty full at this point, I keep my mirror (by Sephora) in my purse.

Tips for Choosing the Right Products for Your Makeup Bag

  • Forgo your super nice, expensive makeup and take along your inexpensive stuff instead.  A lot can happen when you’re out and about.  You could lose your purse, have it stolen, or any number of terrible things.  Don’t risk your good makeup for that.
  • Keep it small.  Try to find makeup that doesn’t take up a lot of space.  I chose the Bonnebell mascara and eyeliner because it was really small.
  • Keep it simple.  Try to bring only what you need.  Yeah, I have 2 eye shadow pallets in my bag, so I don’t always follow my own advice.  Just remember that you don’t want your bag too full or you’ll never be able to fit it into your purse.

Makeup Bag Etiquette

Don’t put your makeup on just anywhere.  It gives a bad impression if you’re putting it on at the dinner table, for instance.  If you really need to reapply, go to the ladies’ room.

Heading out and need to apply some makeup on the move?  If you really need to put makeup on in the car, you should either do it as a passenger, or stop the car.  A good way to do this is to make it to your destination, and then do your finishing touches while the car is in park.  Or at really long stoplights!  Just keep an eye on the light.

Now it’s Your Turn

What do you carry in your makeup bag?  Do you always carry it with you, or only sometimes?  What can’t you leave the house without?
