How to Take Your Makeup from Day to Night

Let’s say, it’s Monday and you’re at work.  When you got ready in the morning, you put on your regular dull appropriate makeup.

But now some coworkers invited you out to a bar or club after work.  You don’t want to go back home to get snazzed up for the event, so what do you do?

There are actually super easy ways to bring your day makeup into some nighttime activities.  Just by making these easy changes, you’ll look much more appropriate for the event.

These tips work best if you have an emergency makeup bag in your desk at work.  Really, there’s no reason not to have one.

Day Makeup

Usually, you will do a simple look in the morning.  After all, crazy bold looks aren’t so welcome at work these days (much to my chagrin.)

In the picture above, I used eyeliner only on the top lid and mascara all around.  I also used just a bit of green and yellow, but not much at all because I didn’t want to overdo it.

So how do we bring that into nighttime?

Night Makeup

Here, I’m making the look stand out in several different ways:

  • Reapply mascara on the top and bottom lids.
  • Reapply eyeliner on the top lid.
  • Line the bottom lid with eyeliner (makes things much more dramatic).
  • Add more eye shadow.  Bolder, brighter, more.

I did all of these things to bring my day makeup into night.  Heck, I could have gone even bolder!  Instead of the light green and yellow for the day, I added much more green and yellow over a wider area on my lids.  I also threw in some orange, because it’s bold.

Other Ways to Turn Your Day Makeup into Night Makeup

  • Use glitter or shimmer.  You could use it on your eyelids, cheeks, or even on your chest and shoulders.
  • Thicken your existing eyeliner.  Usually for day, we make a modest, thin line.  For night, reapply the liner and thicken it up a bit.  You could even extend the line to add drama as well.
  • Throw on some fake eyelashes.  Depending on how much time you have in the lady’s room after work, you should try some fake lashes.  They’re super bold and oh so adorable.
  • Add shadow to your lower lid.  If you did a look in the morning that you can’t really add shadow to, you can still make it stand out by adding shadow to your lower lid.  By rimming your eyes completely in the color, you’ll be appropriate for that new club opening.
  • If nothing else, throw on some bold, red lipstick.  This can fit easily into your purse and can drastically change the way that you present yourself (both physically and mentally.)

Bring those looks from days to nights, ladies!
