Seasonal Color Trend: Purples and Plums

Every season, there’s some color trend out there that’s getting all the hype.  And that’s of course where sayings like “Orange is the new pink” come from. (That and Josie and the Pussycats.)

So, what’s the color of this season (upcoming autumn)?  Purple.  This comes in several shades, but plum seems to be the most popular.

To celebrate this new color trend, I thought I’d show you some of the best products in beauty and fashion that have that bit of purple.

Nails Nails Nails

Painting your nails is probably the best way to incorporate a new color trend because you don’t have to spend that much money.

Try:

OPI Nail Lacquer in Lincoln Park After Dark

Not only is purple totally IN, so is dark nail polish.  Well, this product kills two birds with one stone.

Also, OPI is a very respected brand when it comes to nail polish.  Most professional nail salons use it and I personally swear by it.

You can find this for around $8.00 in stores and online.

Eye Shadow

Plum eye shadow is probably one of the most versatile colors.  It seems to look great on everyone.

It’s especially a good idea to wear it if you’re wearing plum colored clothing.  Or, purple’s complementary color, yellow.

Try:

NARS Duo Eye Shadow Compact in Charade

The great thing about this compact is that it gives you everything you need, eye shadow-wise.  You get the popular plum color, which would look best in the crease, and a mauve color to blend onto your lid.

NARS, like OPI, is super respected.  You don’t need to worry about quality because they are well known for being pretty darn great.

You’ll find this product for around $32.00.

The Clothes

Want an example of a super cute purple-inspired outfit?  Have no fear!  Check out my recommendation on how to wear this now-IN color.

Keep in  mind that you can wear different kinds of purple at one time.  I swear you’re not clashing.

Also, since yellow is purple’s complementary color, I chose gold to accent certain pieces.  And the black skinny jeans are just adorable.

Above all else, try not to deck out completely head to toe in purple.  That’s a fashion no-no.  Unless it’s a dress or something, but even then, your accessories should be in a different color.

Extra Ways to Go Purple

Nail polish, shadow and clothes aren’t doing it for you?  There are many ways to rock the purple color in the coming months.

  • You could get a purple eyeliner for a different twist to your makeup look.  Try gel liner as it’ll go on smoother.
  • Even something as simple as purple glasses can really add to your look.  You can find cheap pairs of prescription glasses at ZenniOptical.com.  I got a blue and black pair there for a total of $17, including shipping.
  • Purple stocking can really add some pizzazz.  If you’re one of those ladies (whom I envy) that can pull off wearing tights underneath dresses and skirts, purple would be a great idea.
  • For a real bold and semi-permanent look, you could try purple hair extensions.  These will last a few weeks or a few months depending on your hair stylist.

Then again, you could go against the trends all together and wear green or something.  :)  It’s all up to you and your tastes.

At least now you know what’s IN.

  1. Purple is so, so pretty 🙂 I love a good lilac!

  2. Purple has always been one of my favorite colors! This fall I think I might get purpled out though lol

  3. It’s funny, I wear purple so rarely. It’s not that I don’t like it, I just generally forget about it.
