Makeup Review: Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Blasting Waterproof Mascara
I actually got this mascara by accident. Or rather, my mom did. Kind of.
You see, she tried my Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara and really liked it. The only problem was that she wanted waterproof, and the Colossal doesn’t come that way.
So she went to our local drug store, Walgreens, and saw the Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Blasting Waterproof Mascara sitting right next to the Colossal. And it was waterproof! So she thought it must be by the same brand. After all, they both have super fat packaging.
Of course, it wasn’t the same brand. One is Maybelline and one is Cover Girl. In the end, she gave the mascara to me. She thought she might have had an allergic reaction, so keep that in mind for all you ladies who have sensitive eyes.
So how does this new mascara stack up? You can find this at your local drug store for about $7.99. This version is in “Very Black”.
Pros
As you can see in the picture above, Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Blasting Waterproof Mascara really makes your lashes stand out. It did a good job of making my eyes look beautiful.
The mascara wand on this stuff is FAT. I mean it, it’s huge. Take a look at the picture on the right. See how thick it is? Crazy! And the bristles aren’t as long as other mascara wands. I don’t know if this is a pro or a con. Just an observation.
This mascara has some great staying power, which is one of the ways that the Colossal fell flat. Cover Girl LashBlast mascara actually does a good job throughout the day. There’s no flaking or falling of any kind. This may be because of the waterproof factor.
Cons
I prefer that mascaras have no fragrance at all. If they’re going to have a scent, it should smell good. That’s where this mascara runs into a problem. It does not smell good. It reminds me of rubber (as in car tires) and coffee. In a bad way.
Eyelash separation is unreliable for this. With the first swipe, all my lashes were nicely separated and I was pleased. But the more I put on (Even just two or three swipes of the mascara wand) made my lashes start to stick together. Uh oh! You can see a bit of that in the before and after photo.
Finally, there’s the aspect of volume. All of these mascaras nowadays are promising volume, and few deliver, including this one. While it did make my lashes look nice and noticeable, it didn’t seem to add volume of any kind.
The Verdict
So what do I give this new, fat mascara? While it lasted a long time and did a good job of making my lashes stand out, it didn’t seem like anything special.
And, taking scent and separation into account, I can’t ignore the negatives. Because of that, Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Blasting Waterproof Mascara gets a…

Have you tried this? What do you think of this mascara, or the new big packaging trend?

I have to agree with you 100% on this one. Yes, the cuteness factor is up there, with the chunky bright orange tube… but I had the same problem with the clumps. I do love Drew Barrymore though… so I guess they props on the spokes-model.

Yeah, Drew Barrymore is great, but I have a problem with those commercials. They seem to have made her look just wrong. It’s her skin or something, I can’t put my finger on it. And she’s usually so adorable!
