Beauty Review: L’Oreal Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Gel Cleanser

Here’s a nice change of pace.  Rather than reviewing makeup, I’m reviewing a beauty product.  After all, makeup isn’t the only way we can keep ourselves beautiful.

Today, I’m reviewing L’Oreal Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Gel Cleanser.  I really needed some new face wash.  I’d been using a cream cleanser and I was really yearning for something that could suds up.

I bought this product at Walgreens, but you can find it at most drug and department stores, as well as online.  The average price is $7.49 for an 8 ounce bottle.

Let’s see how well this product worked!

Is this good for sensitive skin?

I have very sensitive skin, so my experience is a good barometer for whether this will work for you.  The fragrance in the L’Oreal Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Gel Cleanser is a tiny bit harsh.  It isn’t nearly as light as it could be. (It also reminds me of old ladies’ perfume.)

Still, it didn’t irritate my skin like I thought it would.  I felt perfectly fine once everything was washed off.  Because of this, this product works well for people with sensitive skin.

Does it really minimize pores?

If this does minimize pores, it doesn’t do it very well.  I couldn’t really see a difference before and after.  There may have been slight minimizing.  Then again, I don’t have very big pores to begin with.

If you’re only planning on buying the L’Oreal Skin Genesis cleanser for pore minimization, you’ll be disappointed.  I’ve never really seen proof that any product could make your pores smaller, and this is no exception.

How well does it take off eye makeup?

It says right on the bottle:

“Effectively & gently removes eye makeup”

I’ve used this a few times.  When I didn’t have that much eye makeup on, it took it all off like a pro.  When I had a lot of eye makeup on, it took off most of it.  Afterward, there still was some makeup residue.

In the end, it does work well most of the time.  You may need to go back in with some dedicated eye makeup remover if you’re wearing a lot of waterproof mascara or eyeliner, though.

Does it leave any soapy residue?

Residue can be a big problem for some cleansers.  It seems like they leave more dirt on your face than what you started with.

Luckily, L’Oreal Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Gel Cleanser works well for this.  It was light and clean.  When I rinsed off my face, all of the soap came with it.  It was very light and it didn’t leave any noticeable residue.

The fragrance, however, does leave a residue.  It isn’t light at all and smells like an old granny.  After I rinse off my face, I can still smell it for at least an hour.  Granted, if you like the granny smell, it may be a good thing.

The Final Verdict

After taking everything into account, I’ve come up with the perfect grade for this L’Oreal Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Gel Cleanser review:

B -

While it did have some bad aspects, such as the fragrance and the lack of pore minimization, it was still a good product.  It washed my face like a pro.

Have you used this beauty product?  What did you think?  Let me know in the comments!
