Beauty Review: Olay Professional ProX Starter Protocol
When I got to try the new Olay Professional line of facial moisturizers, my mom was the first person who came to mind. After all, this starter kit is supposed to help with wrinkles and fine lines. I’m 25. I don’t have those yet. (Fingers crossed that I stay smooth forever.)
First, I had my mom try it. I wanted her to try for at least a few weeks so we could see if she got less wrinkly, but she didn’t even last 7 days. This is what she had to say about the Olay Professional ProX Starter Protocol:
“These lotions didn’t have any smell, which was good. Also, they didn’t leave my skin feeling oily, which can be a problem with a lot of moisturizers. It was good feeling stuff. The problem is that my eyes are really sensitive, and even though I avoided getting it in my eyes, it still irritated them. Also, it seemed that I am just a bit too old for this stuff. I need something heavy duty. This seems more suited for someone in their late 20s to early 40s.”
There you have it. My mom has sensitive eyes, but I have sensitive skin. Her review made me a little weary of trying it. Honestly, it is very very rare for me to find a face moisturizer I can actually use. It’s because of the fragrance. If there’s even a bit of a scent, I get an allergic reaction. FYI, even lotions that say ‘Fragrance Free’ often have a fragrance that bothers me. Quit lying, beauty companies.
But I tried it anyway. Why not? If this stuff can prevent me from getting wrinkles, I’m happy.
What does the Olay Starter Protocol come with?
In this starter box, you get three different products:
- Eye Restoration Complex (morning and night)
- Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30 (morning)
- Wrinkle Smoothing Cream (night)
In day or night, the Eye Restoration Complex goes on first and it goes just around your eyes where wrinkles and dark circles form. Then, either the Age Repair Lotion in the morning or Wrinkle Smoothing Cream at night go all over your face and neck.
How does it smell?
The Eye Restoration Complex and Wrinkle Smoothing Cream had no scent at all. I’m serious. None. I loved that.
The Age Repair Lotion had a very slight beachy scent that reminded me of summer. That’s probably the unavoidable scent of SPF ingredients. It was mild and it didn’t bother my skin.
That’s right, this stuff didn’t irritate my skin at all. I was really surprised. That just doesn’t happen!
How well does it work?
As I said, I don’t have wrinkles, so I can’t tell you whether it works for that. I can tell you how it works at moisturizing my face, though.
Normally I use a very thin facial moisturizer by Luzier. I use something thin because I have normal skin and don’t need anything heavy duty. After using this Olay ProX stuff, I feel like I’ve been missing out.
These facial lotions are great. My mom was right, they’re not greasy at all. They soak right into the skin. Throughout the day my skin feels so much softer and nicer than it ever did. Up until now, I thought I had good face skin. Now I realize it could have been better. And now it is better when I use these products.
The Final Verdict
While I really liked this line of facial moisturizers, I can’t ignore my mom’s review. It’s proof that even the best products won’t work for everyone. If you have sensitive eyes, you should probably avoid this. Also, I would heed her advice about older women (50+) passing it up for something heavy duty.
Still, the Olay Professional ProX Starter Protocol kit was good. And, for that, I give it a:
B
You can find the Olay Professional ProX Starter Protocol for $69.99 at mass retail outlets, drug stores and online, although you can often find it on sale.
