Makeup Review: Cover Girl Exact Eyelights Mascara
It’s hard to know whether a mascara will actually do what it says. Take the Cover Girl Exact Eyelights Mascara, for instance. I saw them feature it on America’s Next Top Model, but they pay for that advertising. Then I read some reviews on Amazon, and some people say it’s terrible.
In order to know if a mascara is good, you need to find a trusted source. Hopefully, I can help you make a decision.
How does the mascara work?
Cover Girl Exact Eyelights mascara is special because it’s tailor-made for your eye color. If you have green eyes like me, then you would get the Black Ruby version of the mascara. They also have shades for blue, brown and hazel eyes.
Another way this mascara is different is that it contains ‘metallic spheres’ (i.e. shimmer) to make your eyes look brighter.
How well does it work?
You can view a before and after to see for yourself:
Personally, I was very pleased with the way the mascara separated my lashes. Most mascaras I’ve been trying lately did nothing but clump. That’s not the case for me, although I have read other reviews from ladies who had the exact opposite experience.
Something else I noticed was the feel of my lashes after using it. Normally when mascara’d, my lashes feel stiff and brittle. With CG Exact Eyelights, my lashes were actually soft and pliable. It didn’t feel like I had any on at all.
Is the shimmer too much?
I have to tell you right now: this isn’t a glitter mascara. You won’t get a ‘club’ look with this.
Instead, the shimmer in the mascara is really subtle. You can’t even tell it’s there unless you get a really close look. Click on the before and after picture above to get a larger view where you can see the shine.
If you’re looking for some dramatic shimmer, then this isn’t for you. Then again, if you want your eyes to shine without something dramatic, you may like it as much as I did.
The Final Verdict
This mascara isn’t for everyone. If you’re looking for a lot of volume, you’ll need to go elsewhere. Instead, this is perfect mascara for the understated look of office makeup, or when you’re focusing more on eye shadow or lips in your makeup look, rather than lashes.
Still, this is my new favorite mascara. Seriously. I love how natural it feels on my lashes, and I like the plum color. That’s saying a lot coming from someone who always chooses ‘very black’ when picking out mascara.
With all of this in mind, and with only using my own experiences to help me choose a grade, I give the Cover Girl Exact Eyelights Mascara a:
B+
You can pick up this mascara in all of its forms (both regular and waterproof) online and at mass-market retail outlets for $7.49 each.

wow.. the mascara looks so decent.. just purchased Maybelline Volume Express Turbo boost..frankly speaking it disappointed me a lot.. i was thought it should be voluminizing my lashes but I don’t see any even after 3 coats. The brush is too big for Asian in my opinion and difficult for me to reach to the inner corner. I’m still prefer Majolica Majorca mascara as it volumnizes my lashes in just one coat.
Syn: Aww, that’s too bad about the Maybelline Volume Express Turbo. I have the problem with getting all of my lashes at the inner corner, too, although I’m not Asian. Maybe they need to start bringing back those curved mascara wands again.

Wow, you have amazing eyelashes! You lucky thing, I bet every mascara looks good on you.
Have you tried Lancome mascaras? They’re my favorite
Renee
I used to work at a Lancome counter, and honestly, I believe that Cover Girl Mascaras are just as good, if not better than Lancome mascaras (and a bargain as well!)
I’ve tried Lancome mascaras…they take some getting used to, to say the least.
you have beautiful eyes and really long eyelashes. i have the CG exact eyelights for green eyes and i like it alot
Thanks, Anna. That’s really sweet. As for the mascara, I still like it a lot after all this time. I actually gave it as a Christmas present to someone and she loved it.
I have this mascara and your review is spot on. I actually do find that the mascara brings out my eye colour particularly in the light. It’s nice. It’s also really easy to apply (it doesn’t clump up and just the right amount of mascara comes out of the tube each time). It’s not messy. It stays on pretty well.

Lookin’ good, Lisa!
As time goes by, I like this mascara more and more. Really, it’s hard to find something better. I have even given it as gifts to people I know.
I love this mascara for the natural look. As for brightening eye color?? NEGATIVE!
It’s good mascara for lengthening and natural look only!
I actually quite like this mascara look! But I am using now the Revitalash they make your lashes nice and full without looking too fake.
I Use CG Exact Eyelights For Blue Eyes & It’s My Favourite, It Makes My Eyelashes Soft, Full & Curl!!! The Blue Pigments Are Quite Shiny But Only Really Obvious In Direct Sunlight!!!
