Makeup Files is 1 Year Old!
One year ago today, I published my first post on Makeup Files. It’s been a crazy year.
I first got the idea to start Makeup Files when I was telling a friend about everything you could do with white eyeliner. They complimented my knowledge, and I realized that I do know a bit more about makeup than the average person.
I went out and bought the MakeupFiles.com domain and spent a large amount of time finding an appropriate theme and layout. It’s funny that the theme ended up changing several times before becoming what it is today.
Besides the customary welcome post, my first posts had to do with getting your face ready for makeup, a Sunrise Eyes makeup tutorial, and a website of the week. Although there wasn’t a lot of traffic in the beginning, I had a fun time getting it all started.
Writing a Book
Over the summer, 2008, I wrote a book exclusively for Makeup Files entitled The Complete Eyebrow Guide. It was meant to be a little supplement people could get if they needed help with their brows.
I think of the release of that book as sort of a milestone for Makeup Files. It took the website a step further into ‘professional’ territory.
Also at this time, traffic really began to increase.
Joining Total Beauty
In October 2008, Makeup Files joined the Total Beauty Blog Network. This partnership meant added traffic to the blog, as well as extra info for my readers.
It was a big deal for me to be accepted by Total Beauty. It meant that other people saw my blog as something important or special. Not just my mom.
Makeup Files is still a part of Total Beauty today, and I welcome all readers who found me through their site.
Since the start of the year, traffic for Makeup Files has more than doubled. This increases with every passing month.
The increased readership could be contributed to a lot of things. I’d like to think it’s mostly because Makeup Files is just THAT awesome.
Also, it might have helped that the blog focus changed a bit. While I started this website strictly about Makeup, it’s now more a beauty blog with a makeup focus. I still talk about makeup, but there’s other beauty stuff in there, too.
While the future of Makeup Files is uncertain, I do know that it will be around for all of your reading enjoyment.
Last month I released a new website about motivation and goal management called Motivation Files. I intend to start a mini blog network with the ‘Files’ theme.
Here’s to hoping that year #2 for Makeup Files is even better than the first. I love this gig and I plan to stick around for a long time.
Celebrate the Blogaversary With Me
To celebrate this monumental occasion, I’m holding a huge beauty giveaway with a bunch of products worth more than $100 total.
Head on over and enter to win.
