Have you ever styled your hair with a powder? Up until recently, I hadn’t. After all, most styling products are a mousse, gel or spray. But powder? That’s pretty rare.

I got to try the Clynol Play With Me Powder Punch. It’s a powder styling agent. They call it ‘texture powder’.

How good is this product? Let’s find out.

How does it work?

Here are the directions, straight from the can:

“Shake small amount onto palm, rub to transform powder to liquid and work it into dry hair. Create your own styles.”

I was a little confused by that, so I used some more instructions from this video, found on YouTube:

With the help of that video, I was able to use the product as directed. It’s actually a lot easier than I expected.

How well does it work?

Clynol Powder Punch won’t give you stiff hair. You can decide for yourself if that’s a good thing.

The cool thing about it is that it makes your hair moldable. You can make your hair do pretty much whatever you want, but it doesn’t actually feel like you have product in your hair.

I decided to do a little before and after so you can see it in action:

As you can see in this before picture, my hair looks pitiful.

I didn’t wash my hair today. Normally I do every day because it gets just too greasy and unmanageable when I don’t.

I decided to put my hair in a ponytail and pull my bangs back and off my forehead. Without any products, it looks flat and dumb. I tried to get the hair to stand up a bit for a pompadour look, but it didn’t work.

Then I used Clynol on my bangs:

I used a bit of the Clynol Powder Punch and ran it through my hair near the roots. Once applied, my hair looked great. Heck, I could have worn my bangs any which way.

But hey, I said I wanted a pompadour. This time, it was a lot easier to put it up. I didn’t even use hair spray. What’s good about that is I could take it down and mold it into a different style later on. It’s not stuck in this position.

Nice, huh? I like it.

The Final Verdict

While I had a lot of success with this, you have to think about one thing: your hair has to be 100% dry when you use Clynol Powder Punch. That means most people won’t be able to fit this into their morning routine because there won’t be enough time to get your hair all the way dry.

Then again, it’s perfect for days when you get up and don’t want to wash your hair. After all, everyone says its unhealthy to wash your hair every day.

Also, this texture powder is more for alternative hairstyles and less for something you’d use before work. Although, it’s always worth a try to do something conservative.
