Makeup Review: Avon Ultra Color Rich Extra Plump Lipstick

On the quest for the perfect lipstick? Aren’t we all?

I’ve reviewed many lipstick products, and the new Avon Ultra Color Rich Extra Plump Lipstick is next in line. I tried the Ho3 color: Pink Sunset.

This lipstick is a bit different. Rather than just focus on color (which is a pale, shimmery pink) they also added a plumping factor. Normally you only find this in lip glosses. This is the first time I’ve tried a lipstick that had that numbing, plumping ingredient.

As you can see from the picture on the right, The colored lipstick is on the outside with a white core. The white in the middle is where all that numbing plumpliness comes from.

Let’s see how well it performed.

How well does it work as a lipstick?

Before anything else, we buy lipstick for how it looks on our lips. Here’s how mine looked:

Honestly, I think there’s a bit too much shimmer in this lipstick, and not enough pigment. Perhaps it would be different with a darker shade, like Starlet Red. As of now it just seems a bit too pale to me.

Something I did like about the Ultra Color Rich Extra Plump Lipstick is the moisture. Some lipstick go on almost like a paste. They’re chalky and weird. That’s not the case for this. The lipstick went on smoothed and stayed that way.

Through normal wear-and-tear, this lipstick lasted about half the day, give or take a few hours. If you want an all day look, you will probably have to reapply at least once.

Does it really plump your lips?

That’s the big debate, isn’t it? Do lip plumpers really work? I’ve got to tell you, I’ve tried a lot of plumpers. The tingling sensation in the UCR Extra Plump Lipstick was one of the most intense I’ve ever tried. So if lip plumpers DO work, this lipstick definitely will.

I’m still not convinced, though. They say that the tingling is rushing blood to your lips, and in that way, it probably plumps them. Still, I haven’t seen a noticeable difference. Then again, my lips are pretty plump as it is.

The Final Verdict

As a lip plumper, all I can do is shrug. Does it work? I don’t know. It definitely doesn’t make a huge notable difference to me, although it may work better for thin-lipped gals. Although the pigment of the lipstick was a bit too shimmery and pale for me, I know a lot of girls like that in a lipstick. And since it is good at moisturizing the lips, that definitely raises the grade. With all of these factors, I give the Avon Ultra Color Rich Extra Plump Lipstick:

C+

You can purchase this lipstick online or from a local Avon rep for $8.00 suggested retail price.
