Makeup Review: Avon SpectraColor Lipstick
Finding the right shade of lipstick can be tough. Avon is trying to correct that with their new lipstick: Avon SpectraColor Lipstick.
The lipstick boasts that you can get seven different shades from one product. As you can see from the picture, there are two different shades that give you multiple variations on color.
But does this gimmick actually work? Is it good lipstick? I decided to try it out for myself.
I used the shade ‘The Roses’ for my Avon SpectraColor Lipstick. It also comes in such shades as The Berries, The Pinks, and The Wines.
How does it work?
You choose from the 7 different lipstick shades of the SpectraColor Lipstick by turning a dial at the base. Here’s what it looks like:
They have a little picture for each number so you can see how dark or light the color will look. When you’re done selecting a color, you push a button at the bottom of the stick. This dispenses the color at the other end.
Since the button doesn’t have a cover, they have also created a lock as part of the dial. When you put it in your purse, make sure you lock it!
How does it look?
Avon calls this a lipstick, but that seems inaccurate. It acts much more like a lip gloss as it is a gel. It is in no way a stick.
While the colors came out nice at any of the 7 settings, I did have a problem with this ‘lipstick’ overall. It had an oily texture that didn’t stick to the lips or soak in. It easily wiped off.
Here’s a picture of my lips with the level 4 SpectraColor Lipstick so you can form your own opinion:
The Final Verdict
While I liked the gimmick of this lip product, and I especially appreciated the foresight of adding a lock, I couldn’t get past the texture. It just didn’t look or feel right on my lips. Then again, others may like the way it feels. In the end, I give the Avon SpectraColor Lipstick a:

You can pick up this product from an Avon rep or in the Avon online store for $9.50 suggested retail price.

I personally liked it, because I don’t like how drying lipsticks can be, but I wanted a good amount of pigmentation (glosses are frequently so sheer that they’re interchangable).
I also wished this product had a little more staying power, and wouldn’t pay full price for it. If it goes on sale though, I’d recommend giving it a try

Thanks, Marilyn! It’s always good to see what others have to say. Would you agree with me that calling it a ‘lipstick’ is a little weird, though?
I bought this product several months ago, and here are my opinions:
*I agree with several bloggers on the fact that this is a thick gloss, not a lipstick. How could you do this with a solid lipstick? As I prefer glossy lipstick, this was perfect for me. The color saturation is great though.
* It runs on the darker shades. Use with a liner on these.
* It comes off quickly.
*I just sent a complaint to Avon about the darker side of the gloss getting stuck. Hope I can fix this!
* I can’t find the product on the site anymore.
