Makeup Review: Stila Lip Glaze

Stila Lip Glaze People in the internet world talk about Stila Cosmetics all the time. I’ve got to admit, up until recently I’d never tried it. When I had the chance, I decided to go for one of the most talked about items in the Stila line-up: Stila Lip Glaze.

Since I’d heard good things about it, I tried the Guava Lip Glaze, a sheer rosy brown.

Let’s see how this lip gloss stacked up?

How does it smell and taste?

I don’t actually know what guava smells like. Do you?

Either way, this lip gloss smells delicious. It’s fruity and citrusy. Luckily, it doesn’t taste that way, or the glaze wouldn’t last long on my lips. Problem is, the website says it has a flavor. I didn’t get that at all. I’m glad it didn’t but that still seems like false advertising.

How does it look?

Lip Glaze really is a good name for this lip gloss. It adds a bright sheen to my lips. The coloring is sheer so it still looks natural. Here, judge for yourself with this before-and-after:

StilaLipGlaze02 It’s really shiny and smooth, like glass. I’d say that’s a good thing!

How does it work?

The applicator in Stila Lip Glaze is a brush. The gloss is dispensed through the brush by twisting the end.

Your instincts would say to just click the bottom and spread it on your lips when you want some gloss. That didn’t work for me. The gloss comes out slowly, so I ended up dispensing too much without realizing.

Here’s a better idea: after every use, give the glaze one nice turn, which is about 5 clicks. Next time you go to use it, the brush will already be full of glaze. Repeat.

I have big lips. If yours are small, try a smaller turn with fewer clicks for a smaller amount of gloss.

Also, as you would expect from such a shiny gloss, Stila Lip Glaze is sticky. If you have long hair like me, it’ll get stuck to your lips with a strong gust of wind.

The Final Verdict

While I had a couple problems with this, I generally liked the Stila Lip Glaze. I see what all the fuss is about. It makes me want to try other shades. For instance, Guava is a regular shade, but they have some shimmery shades as well like Cinnamon and Starfruit. With all this kept in mind, I give the Stila Lip Glaze a:

  1. Trisha, I totally agree! So many people loved the Stila Lip Glazes that I just had to try it. I have it in “Brown Sugar”. The color is decent. The product is super sticky, which does help it last longer on my lips but is kind of annoying. But mostly, I hate the click pen type applicator, which never seems to dispense the perfect amount, and that it costs $22! There are plenty of other great glosses out there, so I won’t be buying these again either.
