Ultimate Beauty Day 8: Eat and Drink Healthy to Increase Beauty

10DaysBanner Goal: Improve the health and beauty of your insides

Welcome to the 8th day of the 10 Days to Ultimate Beauty.

I’m going to tell you some things you already know. After all, most of us know that we should eat better. That we should exercise. I’ll tell you: I’m not overweight from lack of knowledge. Still, we need to be reminded that eating right and staying active will not only help our health but our beauty as well.

Getting Healthy

Did you know that keeping healthy can improve the way you look? Sure, we’ve heard that drinking copious amounts of water can clear your skin. But then it was proven untrue. Still, keeping healthy is good for other reasons:

  • Keeping fit and active will help you be more alert and awake, brightening up your face and reducing dark circles under your eyes.
  • Eating right and exercising makes you feel better physically and mentally. That happiness shines through in the way that you look.
  • A fit, lightly muscled body looks better in cute outfits than a jiggly one. (Sorry, someone had to say it.)
  • The better you eat, the better your skin will be. You’re healthiness shows through in your skin.

Now all you need to do is eat right and stay active. Easier said than done though, right?

Assignment Day 8: Today’s assignment is tough. Essentially, you’re going to make a large life change. But you know what? It’s for the best. Sure, my goal for these posts is to improve your beauty, but if I can improve your health and make you live a little longer, that’s even better. You need to improve your eating habits and increase your daily activity. (FYI: I’m not a doctor. Consult yours if you plan to make a huge health change.)

Choose one option from each category:

Eating Right
  • Count calories. This method is great for those trying to lose weight (this is the method I use). Use an online calculator to figure out how many calories you would need to maintain your ideal weight (not your current weight). Subtract 100-200 calories. Eat that amount every day. Track it at SparkPeople or FitDay.
  • Cut out bad foods. This is good for people who are at a good weight but need to eat healthier. Avoid eating foods high in saturated fat and refined sugars. Stick with whole wheat products. Add tons of vegetables and fruit to every meal and avoid eating packaged foods. Limit the soda you drink. This’ll decrease sodium, fat and other bad food elements.
  • Stop eating out. Forget going to McDonalds or fancy restaurants. Not only will you save money, you’ll avoid foods with tons of sodium, fat and calories. Make your food at home and you’ll know exactly what you’re putting in your body.
  • Lower your carbohydrates. This is perfect for those who seem to eat mostly pasta and bread products. Carbs are important, but the calories you get from carbs should only make up about 50% of your daily calories. Up your protein intake and lessen how many carbs you ingest.
Increasing Daily Activity
  • Use a workout video. This is good for people who don’t have a lot of time to spend at a gym. This is the method I use most often. Use the workout video right when you get up in the morning so you don’t start thinking of an excuse to avoid it. 30 minutes of good exercise a day will change your health dramatically.
  • Go for a daily walk. This is especially good to do with a friend or boyfriend/husband. Walk through your neighborhood or on a path through the woods. Try to walk at least 30 minutes each time. Even better, jog during this time.
  • Join a gym. This is best for people with the extra time and those serious about increasing activity. Spend your time on both the cardio equipment (treadmills, elliptical trainers) and on the weight machines. It’s important to have both cardio and strength training.
  • Join a sports team. This is good for people who want to get exercise without ‘exercising’. Most towns have sports teams for adults. Try softball, volleyball, rugby or other physically active sports.

Did you choose one from each category? Good. Now get going.

Extra Credit: Want to take it a step further? Choose multiple options from the list above. You could count calories while cutting out the bad foods. You could combine daily walks and joining a sports team. Adding more from each category will lessen the chance of getting bored and increase the results you see in your health and body shape.

Which options did you choose? Were you already employing healthy habits before? Let us know in the comments!
