Beauty Review: Ouidad Sun Shield Sun & Sport Leave-In Spray
I love summer. I love heat in general.
But one problem with summer is that it can wreak havoc on your hair. We have all of these products to protect our skin from summer sun, but rarely have anything for our hair.
Ouidad, a hair brand focused on those of us with curly hair, came out with a leave-in spray to help protect your hair from the elements.
Ouidad Sun Shield Sun & Sport Leave-In Spray comes in a 8.5 ounce spray bottle.
When should I use the Ouidad leave-in spray?
Sun Shield can be used on…
- Dry hair
- Damp hair
- Wet hair
It’s recommended to be used in many situations, including…
- Before you go running
- After swimming
- Before the start of a volleyball game
Essentially, use it whenever. It’s supposed to keep your hair moist in situations that usually dry it out.
Does it work?
Setting aside the fact that Sun Shield is billed as a sun and sport spray, it works really well as a leave-in conditioner. I sprayed it on my hair around my temples where I normally had a lot of frizz. It worked well at keeping the frizz at bay.
As far as protecting from the sun, Ouidad Sun Shield is best in situations that dry out your hair. So if you’re going to hang out by the beach all day or swim in a chlorinated pool, this works well.
Be warned though, this doesn’t contain SPF. It won’t protect your scalp from a sunburn.
How does it smell?
Ouidad Sun Shield Sun & Sport Leave-In Spray smells like a mix of flowers and baby powder. I can’t quite put my finger on what exactly, but it reminds me of beauty product smells from the 1990s.
Is that a bad thing? No, not to me. Really, it’s all about preference. If you hate the smell of baby powder, you may not like this.
If you can smell it before buying, such as a product tester at a Sephora store, do it. While the smell is nice, it’s also strong. You’ll be smelling it on your hair all day long.
The Final Verdict
Though it won’t protect my scalp from sunburn, Ouidad Sun Shield worked very well as a leave-in conditioner. The scent was strong, but it smelled good so I didn’t mind. And as an added bonus, it was made especially for curly-headed girls such as myself (although this can work for anyone.) For all of these reasons, I gave this leave-in spray a…
