Do You Use Celebrities as Beauty Inspiration?

Celebrities are everywhere, and not just in the media where they get their main paycheck. They’re in beauty magazines, beauty websites, blogs and celebrity gossip TV programs.

But let’s get candid.

Do you use celebrities as beauty inspiration? Do you see a celebrity look and go “Oh my gosh! I want to look like that!”

Most of the time, I couldn’t care less. But there are those rare occasions where I see a celebrity and think, “Man, she has good makeup.” Then yes, in those cases, I’ve been inspired. Here is my short list of celebrities that inspire my makeup:

Eva Mendes. She’s got some great eyebrows and the girl can rock a seriously dramatic liquid eyeliner. Watch her in Hitch and you’ll get what I’m saying. I love that movie.

Kat Von D. Her personality aside, Kat has some great makeup application techniques, especially if you like a dramatic, smoky eye. Figures that she would have her own makeup line now.

Dita Von Teese. She is a great gal to emulate if you want to look vintage. Her makeup and hair are perfect.

  1. To be honest, celebrities very rarely inspire me. Most of the time, they were natural and barely-there makeup that looks pretty but also very boring. I like colorful and bold makeup so I sometimes take inspiration from a music video where the singer is wearing dramatic makeup, but that’s it.

  2. Exactly. Most of the time, their makeup isn’t anything special. I like when a celebrity really steps out of that mold and does something bright or dramatic. It’s rare, but awesome when it happens.

  3. Hardly a celebrity inspires me, most of the clothes they wear are meant for a tall, lean figure. Plus, when I am going to be wearing a cocktail dress? Even the accessories, I am not too big into thousand dollar handbags. If you get your purse stolen, just the purse throws ya back a thousand dollars.
Most of their makeup you can buy for half the price when you research things yourself. Than you don’t need a professional to apply it. I want to look good (okay, decent) fast. I can’t do just the eyes and lips in 30 minutes.
