Deep Condition THIS!: Using Ouidad 12 Minute Deep Treatment
I’ve been growing out my hair for the last few years. I think I’ve only trimmed it once or twice. You know what that means? Split ends like crazy. I’ve also got damaged bangs from constant flat iron use.
Yeah, my hair is a disaster. So when I heard about the Ouidad 12 Minute Deep Treatment, I jumped at the chance to try it. It’s not just any deep conditioner. It requires steps.
Of course, I’m going to show the process. You don’t even need to ask.
Here’s how my hair looks normally. It’s a nice color and everything, but you can see how frayed it is. My hair doesn’t feel super dry, but it definitely looks like it.
Time to gather the essential deep conditioning tools:
- Plastic wrap
- Ouidad 12 Minute Deep Treatment
- A second, regular conditioner. I used John Frieda Root Awakening Strength Restoring Conditioner
- A hair dryer

Step 1: Wash Your Hair
Take your regular shower, shampooing your hair clean. Don’t put on conditioner.
Get out of the shower and towel off your hair to get rid of dripping water.
Step 2: Apply Ouidad 12 Minute Deep Treatment
The container says to put on about 2 ounces of the deep treatment on your hair, and more if your hair is long. Frankly, I have no idea what 2 ounces looks like. That’s a quarter cup, right? Regardless, I threw a bunch of this on my hair until it was fully coated.
FYI: This stuff smells awesome. It reminds me of cocoa butter lotion you put on your skin after a long day at the beach.
Step 3: Wrap it Up
Wrap your head in plastic wrap. You may feel silly, but just pretend you’re on the runway:
Step 4: Apply Some Heat
With your hair wrapped up, heat it with a hair dryer. Keep the dryer a few inches away from your head. Melted plastic won’t help with conditioning.
Do this for a minute or two.
Step 5: Wait 12 Minutes
Are you surprised that you wait 12 minutes? You shouldn’t be. It’s in the name!
Crank your timer to 12 and spend the time eating chocolates or watching trashy television (just not as trashy as the Jersey Shore. Everyone needs standards.)
Step 6: Add Conditioner and Rinse
As per directions straight from Ouidad, add some regular conditioner to your head once the timer goes off. Then, hop back in the shower and rinse out your hair. Leave a bit of deep conditioning residue in your hair. At the very least, it’ll make you smell nice.
Step 7: Style as Usual
Now that you’re done, you can do all of your regular styling techniques. I let most of my hair air dry but flat iron my bangs straight. This is how I looked hours later with quaffed hair and pretty makeup:
- My hair felt a bit softer in general
- My bangs, the most damaged hair, were much softer and smoother
- My hair smelled yummy
- There was a bit less frizz than normal
- After a few more washing, my hair still feels better
The Final Verdict
This is a review. Did I mention that?
Ouidad 12 Minute Deep Treatment works really well on damaged hair. It seemed that the less-damaged portions of my hair didn’t have as much of an effect though. Although Ouidad is made for curly hair, this could work for anyone. Also, it smells amazing. For these reasons, I give the 12 Minute Treatment an:
