Organic Skincare and makeup

The world has become more and more excited by the word ‘organic’, and everywhere you look there’s a new organic skincare line coming out. Organic beauty is definitely not a passing trend, and we believe that the organic movement is here to stay.

The sale of natural and organic products including organic food, organic cleaning products, clothing and skincare are sky rocking and experiencing rapid growth, showing a clear trend towards pure, clean, safe products, and a scaling back of the use of toxic chemicals.

So why is organic skincare on the rise?
Raw, natural materials such as aloe vera, shea butter, coconut oil are more accessible for skincare producers to use in their formulas, and prices for organic and natural beauty products are more affordable for the average consumer.

The concern for the environment is also causing consumers to re-think where their products are coming from and how they are made.

The increase in media attention on healthy lifestyle is prompting people to switch to safer, more natural products. Consumers are now being educated and have a greater understanding on organic beauty products and are making the choice of leading a healthier lifestyle and change their daily habits and purchases to have a positive impact with the environment.

People are becoming more aware of the potentially health-harming chemicals that are contained in everything from our food, clothing, skincare products and makeup.

Savvy, informed consumers are also more aware of greenwashing (brands that are marketing their products as organic or natural when they are not), and are learning to read and understand the labels on their beauty products. We believe certified organic products are the most trustworthy, because even if a product is labeled ‘paraben-free’ or ‘free of synthetic fragrance’ it may still be filled with a bunch of other toxic chemicals.

Celebrities are also turning to using organic beauty products, putting their names and faces and using their fame to promote organic brands. Dozens of celebrities have spoken publicly about their love for organic products, and the number is growing on a daily basis.

Mirinda Kerr she has her own organic skincare line and is an advocate for a healthy lifestyle. Jessica Alba makes up her own body oils and skincare products using chemical-free, organic ingredients. She also buys organic clothing for her baby, and has launched her own organic clothing line.

Actress Alicia Silverstone is an eco-activist and created her own line of environmentally-friendly, vegan makeup, along with ethical brushes and makeup tools, while singer Sheryl Crow only uses organic, chemical-free cleaning products. Gwyneth Paltrow launched her website Goop.com to spread the word about all things that nourish health and happiness, including organic skincare and food. Her food philosophy is to eat locally, seasonally and always organically.

At Chikii we will continue to do our best to educate people through our natural beauty blog, and by continuing to stand by what we believe in.
