Nutrisystem Nation Week 59 Results

Hey everyone. I really didn’t want to write this post today, and not just because it’s a national holiday.

You’ll see why in a minute. But first, I’m going to get right to the weigh-in.

Steppin’ on the Scale

This morning, the scale said…

I gained 1.2 pounds this week. That brings my total loss down to 88.4 pounds total loss in 59 weeks.

Now, let’s talk about this.

Some of My Confusion

What was different about this week? What did I do that could account for gaining over a pound?

Nothing.

But I have noticed an odd trend. See, I had gotten back into exercise this week after being out of town. When I saw what the scale was doing, I realized something weird:

On the weeks where I can’t get out to exercise, whether from sickness or vacation, I lose more than the weeks where I do.

Doesn’t that seem weird? If you go back through each week’s weigh-in results (you can see the big list below), any of the weeks, since the start of 2012, where my weight loss was really high, were weeks where I wasn’t able to exercise.

What?!

Now, as some of you may know, as you exercise, you build muscle. As you gain muscle you gain (good) weight. What seems weird to me is that just a week off of exercise would have such a big impact on muscle weight.

Unfortunately, there’s a small part of my brain that sees this trend and thinks “well, I should just stop exercising. Problem solved.” But, that’s no good. And since I have a 5K race coming up that I need to train for, there’s no way I’m listening to that.

There are a few other things that could be causing this gain: water weight (I’ve been feeling really puffy) and hormones.

Something just doesn’t make sense to me though, so I’m going to do a bit of research. Come back for next week’s weigh-in post and I’ll clue you in on what I’ve learned (and hopefully, I’ve learned a lot).

Here are my results from the beginning:

  • Week 1: –6.4 pounds

  1. Hi Trisha,
I’m sure it has to do with the fact that your body does not always respond to exercise when you expect it to. And, you are getting really close to goal and don’t have as much to lose so you’re more likely to slow down on the loss. Keep going, you will get there!! As I’ve said, you’re such an inspiration to so many of us :)

  2. You are doing great and I look forward to next week to hear what you have found out ! I agree with Christine, you are an inspiration!

  3. I agree with everything that Christine said too. Don’t get discourage. You’ve been doing so well and are an inspiration for all of us!

  4. You guys are so nice!! Thanks Christine, Colleen and Gio. It really means a lot.

  5. Echoing everything that has been said above, don’t get discouraged! Also, 1.2 lbs compared to everything you lost is very slight, in the big picture. Interested to hear what you find out though, for me it’s more about being fit than my actual weight. I’ve been skinny in the past but I was also a weakling stumbling around LOL, so it’s probably better to be in shape. Anyways, keep it up Trisha, and good luck on the race! :)
