SmileBrilliant Brilliantly Simple Teeth Whitening Review

I don’t have the whitest teeth. They’re not super yellow or anything, but they could use a whitening. That’s why I tried the Brilliantly Simple kit from SmileBrilliant.

It’s a home whitening system that uses an LED light to get teeth as white as you’d get at the dentist. At least, that’s what they promise.

smileBrilliant02The kit comes with (from left to right):

  • LED Whitening Tray
  • Light Transmitter (batteries included)
  • Whitening Gel
  • Brush

Here’s how it works:

  1. Using the brush, coat each tooth in whitening gel.
  2. Place the LED whitening tray in your mouth to protect your lips from the gel.
  3. Place the light transmitter in your mouth, with your lips around it to hold it in place.
  4. Press the power button so the light turns on.
  5. Leave it like that for 20 to 40 minutes.
  6. Remove all and rinse your mouth.
  7. Repeat once per day for up to 12 days.

Of course, since I like to give my readers the best possible reviews, I took pictures of my teeth as I used the SmileBrilliant system.

Before I show you, I just want to say: it’s weird taking pictures of my own teeth. I’ve taken pictures of many parts of my face for this blog, but this was a first. I still feel a little awkward about it.

smileBrilliant03On the left is my teeth before I used the system. On the right is how my teeth looked after six treatments. I stopped at six because I was happy with the results and didn’t think I needed to go any longer.

As you can see, the difference is pretty subtle. After one treatment, I really couldn’t see a difference. It wasn’t until 3 or 4 treatments in that I noticed my teeth getting whiter, and 6 until I got comments from people I knew.

That was not anywhere near as strong or quick as I expected. Still, it did whiten them eventually.

I think the main problem is that the whitening gel seems to slip down the teeth and pool up at the bottom of the tray during the treatment, rather than sticking to teeth.

A plus side to this, though, is that you can target only certain teeth if a few are darker than the rest. That’s something you can’t do with whitening strips.

I give the SmileBrilliant Brilliantly Simple kit a…

You can pick this up at SmileBrilliant for $39.95 (current sale price as of June 12, 2012).

  1. hmmm I’m happy with my current whitening products, but I like the subtle effect you get with this! You have a very nice smile Trisha 🙂

  2. This looks like a better prodcut than the the whitening strips for sure.
