See the POPBeauty Peak Performance Mascara in Action

We get so used to how things are now, it’s a special occasion when something goes so far out of what we know.

Case in point? POPBeauty’s new Peak Performance Mascara tossed out the typical mascara wand we all know and love for a new lash comb. The comb reminds me of one of those thin black hair combs.

Peak Performance Mascara comes in three colors: Brilliant Black, Cocoa Charm and Inky Indigo.

POPPeakMascara02See how different the comb is? Rather than sticking a mascara wand in a tube, you twist the base and the mascara comes out through this comb.

POPBeauty says that it’ll take five turns to get it to come out when you first use it. I found it took 10+ turns. Just be careful. You don’t want it to come out too quick. Then, once you do that the first time, it comes out right away when you twist it.

As for using it, you just brush it on your lashes, from underneath, like you would combing out your awesome ‘do.

The formula takes longer to dry than normal mascara, so wait a while before putting on your glasses (yes, I made this mistake.)

POPPeakMascara03Brilliant Black is a nice, typical black mascara shade. It wasn’t lengthening, but it did add a bit of volume to my lashes.

POPPeakMascara04Cocoa Charm is a very subtle brown shade. It’s almost like a mix between black and brown.

POPPeakMascara05Inky Indigo is a subtle blue. It’s just enough blue to look awesome without making you look like a waitress in a 1950s (or 1980s) diner.

The Final Verdict

The comb for Peak Performance Mascara, so much different than is typical, was a lot easier to use than I expected. The mascara twisted up easily and the colors were pretty. My only gripes are the slow-drying formula and the fact that it’s kind of hard to remove (it comes off in flakes, but only with really good eye makeup remover. Luckily, it doesn’t flake through the day.)

For these reasons, I give it a…

  1. Not sure about this one, Trisha; looks like it might take some getting used to!

  2. I’m really intrigued by the comb applicator. It’s good to know it works well but I think it would take me a while to get used to it. That blue shade is very pretty too.
