Nails of the Day: Mod Duo Manicure in Brown and Blue

While I wait patiently for the Publisher’s Clearinghouse Prize Patrol to show up at my door with a big check, I thought I’d show you my nails.

I’m with the rest of the world when I say that, currently, I’m in love with fun manicures. It’s seems us girls are all collectively crushing on fun colors and awesome nail art. We see it on Pinterest makeup and nail boards and all over Hello Giggles and we “ooo” and “aah” over the beauty of it.

So of course, I can’t help myself. I needed to do some unconventional nails of my own. Aren’t I so trendy? Winking smile

Here’s what I came up with:

notd38It’s simple but awesome. I think the crisp lines and color choices make this blue and brown manicure look decidedly 1960s mod.

Now all I need is some blunt bangs and super winged eyeliner to really transport me to the days of beatniks and slam poetry. Hey, I’m halfway there!

I used Wet N Wild Megalast Nail Polish in I Need a Refresh-Mint as the blue/turquoise color and my favorite Sinful Colors Nail Polish in Nirvana as the nice muted, dusty brown.

To get the crisp line, I used the Scotch tape method:

notd39First, I painted my entire nails with the blue. Then, when it was dry, I taped off the top half of the nails and painted the remaining in the brown. Once painted, I pulled off the tape and voila: super awesomeness.

If you’re like me and you’re super impatient and don’t wait until your nails are 100% dry before taping them, you can always go back and touch up the blue where some of it was pulled away by the tape.

What do you think? (And happy Wednesday!)
