Supermodel Stephanie Seymour: The New Face of Estée Lauder

Supermodel Stephanie Seymour

When it comes to super models, Stephanie Seymour was one of the greatest. And if you haven’t heard of her, it’s probably because she’s one of the ‘original’ pack of super models alongside Paulina Porizkova, Elle Macpherson and Christy Turlington.

Yup, the “I don’t get out of bed for less than $10,000” brigade. Which means she was modelling either before you were born or when you were a much younger version of yourself.

Which means she is how old?

Supermodel Stephanie Seymour enjoyed great success, including the beginning of a long relationship with Victoria’s Secret and work on the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues, but it was not the truly spectacular success Seymour sought. So she posed for a spread in Playboy Magazine in 1991 (as you do) and this would be the first of several. Sure enough, this served as an accelerant to her career, and soon she had achieved the status of supermodel, appearing as well in several music videos, which further increased her status.

The New Face of Estée Lauder

No, this isn’t a ‘What happened to…’ piece. It’s actually more relevant than that. At the very respectable age of 45, Stephanie Seymour has become the new face of Estée Lauder. This is great news. Why? Because our culture is youth obsessed. It’s not healthy to expect women to be line-free, smooth-skinned and perpetually blossoming. OK, Stephanie Seymour has taken good care of herself and probably started with really good genes. That’s not the point.

The point is, that a global icon like Estée Lauder sees the sense in having a 45-year old woman associated with their elite brand. They are saying that women don’t have to be 18 to be beautiful. That they dismiss the notion that women/models are ‘over the hill’ at 25. That women can be attractive at any age.

I think it’s a terrific statement for Estée Lauder to make. Do you think Estée Lauder are rightly embracing beauty at any age? Or do you have a more cynical view. Let’s hear it ladies. What do you think?
