NovaWhite GO Kit Review: At-Home Teeth Whitening System

Recently, I was looking at pictures of my pretty self and was faced with a reality: my teeth are definitely not as white as I’d like them to be.

When I had the opportunity to do a NovaWhite GO Kit review, I jumped at the chance. After all, I’m a lot more apt to do at-home teeth whitening than go to a dentist for the procedure (ain’t nobody got money for that!)

NovaWhite GO Kit Review: The KitI got a few items from the NovaWhite GO Kit to try.

  • 2 Boil-and-Bite Trays
  • 2 1.2mL syringes of 22% carbamide peroxide teeth whitening gel

Those who buy the kit from NovaWhite ($54) also get an extra syringe and a retainer case.

NovaWhite GO Kit Review: Boil-and-Bite TraysThese Boil-and-Bite trays are basically the coolest thing ever.

See, normally at-home whitening involves these slippery films that you put over your teeth. They never seem to stay in place. But these trays are the coolest because you boil them and form them to your teeth so they fit you perfectly.

NovaWhite GO Kit Review: Boiling the TraysHow do they work? As the name might suggest, you boil them.

Boil some water, then dip them in for 5-15 seconds. I suggest using tongs or something when you dip them in. If you follow this picture, and hold them with your bare fingers, you’ll definitely burn yourself. I used an oven mitt in the end.

After 5-15 seconds, quickly take the tray out of the water and put it in your mouth, pushing it against your teeth and holding it in place. It’ll be hot, but it’s not actually that bad.

NovaWhite GO Kit Review: Finished TraysDo this for both trays. One for the top and one of the bottom.

Cut off the tabs and you’ll end up with two trays formed perfectly to your teeth.

Did I mention how awesome I think this is? Because I totally do.

NovaWhite GO Kit Review: The Whitening GelsTo use the NovaWhite GO Kit, you just squirt some of the whitening gel into the trays and push them onto your teeth. You keep them on your teeth for 30-45 minutes.

I like the gels because they have a bit of a minty flavor to them.

The first time I used this system, I used one whole syringe (divided between both the top and bottom trays.) This proved a bit too much. For me, I only needed to use half a syringe per whitening session.

Did it whiten your teeth?

That’s the big question, isn’t it?

I found that after two whitening sessions, my teeth were noticeably whiter. They weren’t a lot whiter, perhaps not as much as I expected, but it was still a noticeable and welcome change.

Yes, I took pictures. No, they didn’t turn out right. What a bummer! I guess you’ll just have to take my word for it.

Did it hurt?

I have fairly sensitive teeth. Unfortunately, this teeth whitening gel did hurt a little bit on my two front teeth. Also, the first time, when I used too much gel, it irritated my gums for hours afterward.

Moral of the story: Don’t go over 30 minutes if your teeth start to hurt and don’t use a whole syringe in one go if you can help it.

A note about white spots: When I used the NovaWhite GO Kit, I did have some white spots on my teeth right after taking out the trays. I looked it up, and this is fairly common for teeth whitening products over most brands. The spots went away after a few hours.

NovaWhite GO Kit Review: The Final Verdict

There are a lot of at-home teeth whitening systems out there, but this was the first I’ve seen that had the Boil-and-Bite trays—and they were awesome! I also liked that the whitening gel had a pleasant taste.

While my teeth were noticeably whiter, they weren’t as white as I expected. Plus, it hurt my sensitive teeth a bit. For all of these reasons, I give the NovaWhite GO Kit a…

  1. I’m always sceptical about this type of products, but I’m glad this one worked for you. Just a shame it hurts a little bit.
