10 Reasons Why I Love Bangs

Have you ever had a Facebook friend put up a status like this?

bangsFacebookThat’s the big debate, isn’t it? To bangs, or not to bangs.

Well, I’ve had bangs for years now (the self-cut bangs that make non-bangers even more apprehensive). I thought I’d give you my 10 reasons why I love bangs. Maybe that will help you decide whether to go for the fringe.

10 Reasons Why I Love Bangs

1. They’re like an accessory for your hair.

Let’s say you have straight hair. You can part it on the side, part it down the middle—but you’ll still have a problem with plain hair. Same goes for wavy and curly hair, too.

But bangs are kind of like a permanent hair accessory. Unlike a headband or cute clip that can fall out, your bangs are always with you. Bangs are like an instant cool-ifier.

2. They don’t take much time to style.

Those afraid of bangs sometimes talk about how much more work their hair will become if they choose a fringe. Guess what: it’s not as hard as you think.

Sure, you might have to use a flat iron (like me!) or a curling iron, but think about how small your bangs are. If you were straightening your whole head of hair, yeah, that would be annoying. But bangs are easy! It only takes me about 2 minutes to get them how I want them, at most.

3. They’re versatile.

You can wear them straight and blunt. You can sweep them to the side. You can comb them back out of your face and secure them with some bobby pins. You can curl them for some Bettie Page bangs.

You’ve got options!

4. They’re easy to maintain.

So many of you are afraid of the dreaded trim. Bangs grow fast and they can get unruly pretty quickly. Here’s what I do: I cut my own bangs.

Rather than heading to a salon for a trim, I just do it myself. You may have cut your own bangs when you were a kid and made a royal mess of it, but now you’re an adult. I have faith in you! Check out The Beauty Department for some tips on trimming your own bangs.

5. They can hide your secrets.

Hate your big forehead? Your premature lines? Have a zit that you’d rather not show off to the world? Bangs can hide all manner of problems!

(And, while you’re hiding them, use this time to start accepting your big forehead and premature lines. You’re gorgeous!)

6. You can hide them if you need to.

I’ve been training for a half-marathon. Now that the weather is getting warmer, my training group has been running in some heat and sun. Normally I’d put my hair in a pony tail but leave my bangs down.

Sure enough, after all that sweating, my bangs would be grossly plastered to my forehead by the end of the run. The moisture would curl my bangs and the hairs would stick out at odd angles.

I’ve learned my lesson. Now I hide my bangs by pulling them back and securing them with bobby pins. Problem solved.

7. They work well with any hairstyle.

Have short hair? Bangs are awesome. Have long curly hair like me? Bangs are awesome. Even if you have super curly, frizzy and unruly hair, you can still rock bangs if you have a heavy duty flat iron.

8. They’re a lazy girl’s dream.

Sometimes you just don’t want to worry about styling your hair all gorgeous. But you still have to go out in the world and be seen. Well, like as mentioned before, styling bangs is super quick and easy. Just do your bangs in 2 minutes and you’re good.

This is perfect for someone like me who wants to spend absolutely no time on my hair, but still wants to look good. This is probably the biggest reason why I love bangs.

9. They can become your signature style.

I’ve had bangs so long, they’ve become a part of who I am. And, honestly, it’s cool to think that there’s something that is mine. Side swept bangs? That’s totally Trisha.

10. You can always grow them out.

Guys. It’s just hair. Take a deep breath and remember: if you don’t like them, you can always grow them out.

Do you have bangs? What do you love about them?

If you don’t have bangs, what’s holding you back?

Let’s chat about it in the comments!

  1. I have bangs and I like them because , they cover my forehead wrinkles, and my large forehead, (bonus :). I also think they bring more attention to my eyes. I just wish they wouldn’t grow out so fast. I used to cut them myself, however, the salon I go to now will trim bangs free in between haircuts. Good Deal 🙂

  2. I lover my bangs .. they make my too long face look shorter 🙂

  3. Very true to #10! I like bangs, but the straight-across ones are such a pain. I usually go for a side-bang now, only mine are almost all grown out. Gotta cut them again soon 🙂

  4. I’ve had bangs almost my entire life. I have a high forehead so it helps take up some space. At this point, they are my “signature” accessory! I couldn’t imagine not having them. Plus it makes styling my eyebrows not so necessary 😉

  5. I actually agree with all of your points but specially bangs hide our secrets and are easy to maintain.
