Beauty Box 5 Review: January 2016
January is almost over! How are those New Year’s resolutions going?
Speaking of January, I got this month’s BB5. Beauty Box 5 is a monthly subscription service where you spend $12 a month and they send you a box of 5 full and sample beauty products.
This month’s box has a little something extra…
Beauty Box 5 January 2016
- Bodipure Keratin Gloves worth $5
- Nails Inc. Nail Polish worth $9.99
- Scratch Custom Accent Nail Wraps worth $6
- Novex Bamboo Sprout Deep Conditioning Treatment sample (full size $14.99)
- Not Your Mother’s Haircare Plump For Joy worth $3
- Salon Grafix Hair Spray worth 2.99
That’s right: There are 6 things this month, not 5. Hey, I’m not complaining! This box is worth over $25.
Let’s take a closer look.
Bodipure Keratin Gloves
While they call it a hand treatment, they recommend this for before you do a manicure. They’re plastic gloves filled with lotion that you wear “for a time.” While my hands felt lovely and soft, I wasn’t a fan of the scent. It smelled like a hair salon in that familiar chemical way.
Nails Inc. Nail Polish
When I first took this bottle of nail polish out of the BB5 box, I thought it was black. Honestly, unless you’re looking at it in really bright light, it’s just black. It does have the tiniest of purple tints to it, though, under certain light. The website has the shade, which is called Grosvenor Crescent, a lot purpler.
The quality of the nail polish wasn’t as good as I’m used to. While it went on nice and thick and only needed two coats, the stuff chipped way sooner than is typical. Don’t worry, you’ll see it in action in the next section below.
Scratch Custom Accent Nail Wraps
I have the same complaint about the nail wraps as I did about the nail polish. While they’re cute, they don’t last as long as you’d expect. On the plus side, they did remove very easily with nail polish remover, which isn’t usually the case with this kind of thing.
The designs were cool, though!
Novex Bamboo Sprout Deep Conditioning Treatment
We’ve gotten a fair amount of Novex deep conditioners from BB5, and my opinion on the brand stands. While the stuff smells really good, nice and sweet, it just isn’t conditioning enough to be called “deep conditioning.”
Not Your Mother’s Haircare Plump for Joy
This travel-sized spray promises to thicken and lift hair. While I don’t think it necessarily does those things, it still acts as a really good styling spray. It helped prevent frizz, which is always nice–especially for a curly haired girl like me. Bonus: It smells good!
Salon Grafix Hair Spray
Finally, I got this travel-sized hair spray. The best thing about this hair spray is that it doesn’t leave your hair all crunchy. It holds a style while keeping your hair soft and touchable. This stuff is aces.
While I wasn’t as happy with this box as the last few months’, it was still pretty good. Now I have some good travel hair products to take with me on a trip I’m going on next month!
What do you think of the January 2016 box?
