What if you could just replace your current brush with a replica while the first dries? That’s the idea with Klix Makeup Brushes. They feature replaceable makeup brush heads so, if you have a replacement, you can swap it out without any interruption in makeup application.

Just like the Pixi Endless Silky Eye Pen in Black Blue I tried previously, these eyeliners are super smooth and soft. You can get a deep, perfect line in just one swipe.

A downside to these is that they take a lot of effort to remove, even with a good makeup remover. You may have to scrub a little harder to get them off your lids.

Pixi Line Relax Serum

The Line Relax Serum promises instant de-puffing and relaxation of facial lines.

Use this right before you put on your foundation and other face makeup.

Pop the cap off the top and pump a few times into the palm of your hand. Then, just smooth over your face.

While I didn’t notice any de-puffing or relaxed lines (maybe since I don’t have many lines), this stuff still wasn’t useless. When I put it on right before the rest of my makeup, it’s smoothness acted as a great primer or pre-primer. Makeup went on much smoother and I looked fresh overall.

Still, it didn’t fully live up to its promises.

Pixi All Over Magic

The All Over Magic promises to add a silky sheen to your skin, anywhere on your body.

I got to try it in Brightening Radiance (light pinks and beiges), although it also comes in Bare Radiance (browns and nudes) and Rose Radiance (peaches and pinks).

Sweep a blush brush (not provided) over the pixi-adorned pressed powder and buff it into your skin.

While I liked the shimmery sheen this gave to my skin, it would have been better if it was just a bit less chalky.

Pixi Wakeup Concealer

The Wakeup Concealer has a built-in brush to make application super easy.

I tried it in Cream, but it also comes in Nude and Warm.

The formula was a few shades lighter than my skin, which is what you want in an under-eye concealer. Although it comes with its own brush, it worked best for me when I dabbed it on with the brush and then used my own wider concealer brush to blend it in.

My darkish circles looked instantly lighter and better. And I looked more awake!

I don’t normally wear concealer, but I know I’ll use it more now that I have this product.

Murad Absolute Bronzing Boost sure has that quality. While it’s a bronzing lotion with shimmer, it also has SPF 15. Score!

Of course, I couldn’t wait to review it.

What ingredients provide the SPF?

Murad Absolute Bronzing Boost has SPF 15.

It uses avobenzone (3.0%), homosalate (4.0%) and octisalate (5.0%).

Unfortunately, SPF 15 is a little low for most sun-exposure. SPF 30 is most desirable. But it’s better than nothing!

How does it work?

Pump some into your palm and then work it over your face, neck and anywhere else you want to be bronzed.

As you can see, it has some shimmer to it:

On the left, a blob of the bronzer. On the right, that same bronzer blended into the skin.

Does it work well?

This bronzer blends into skin really well. Even on dry spots, it soaked in well and didn’t leave a residue.

As it says on the bottle, it doesn’t come in multiple shades because it’s buildable. 1 pump gave good, light coverage. 2 pumps gets pretty dark. Anymore than that and there will be a very noticeable difference in shade.

The shimmer adds a nice shine to skin for a dewy look.

And, also good, this stuff has a very light, barely-there scent that doesn’t irritate my skin.

The Final Verdict

I liked this bronzer quite a bit, especially since it had added SPF 15. If you want more color on your face, this is a good overall bronzer. If you prefer yourself pale, though, this isn’t for you.

You can pick it up at Murad’s website (when it’s not out of stock) for $38 for a 1.0 fl. oz. bottle.

But that’s not the only product from the Dr. Jart+ Beauty Balm line. Costing a few bucks more at $39, Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm promises all-in-one skin protection with anti-aging properties and SPF 45. And it’s free of sulfates, synthetic dyes, fragrances and other nasty stuff.

But what are the differences between the two? Is one better than the other?

SPF Protection?

Water Fuse had only SPF 25. While that’s good, it’s not the best.

The Premium Beauty Balm blows it out of the water with an SPF 45. It uses titanium dioxide (9.015%) and zinc oxide (6.305%) for full-spectrum coverage.

Application?

Water Fuse worked best with a light moisturizer applied just beforehand. Otherwise it could be too dry.

Luckily, Premium doesn’t have that problem. Instead, I could add it to my skin without a moisturizer first. The cream smoothed over my face easily.

For this reason, Premium is a better choice for those with normal, combination or dry skin.

Coverage?

Water Fuse had light coverage on my face.

Premium, on the other hand, had a bit more coverage. Redness disappeared and my skin tone looked more even. And, luckily, it was still thin enough that I didn’t look like I was wearing a load of foundation.

Before and after! You can definitely see a difference for overall color, especially between my eyes and around my nose.

However, this is still a tinted moisturizer. If you want full coverage, you should choose a foundation instead.

Color Choices?

Just like with Water Fuse, Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm only comes in one shade. It’s a light beige that would only work for light to medium skin tones.

If you have dark skin, you should avoid this tinted moisturizer.

The Final Verdict

Though the Premium Beauty Balm is similar to Water Fuse, it improves on some of the problems of the cheaper formula. Premium has a higher SPF, better formula for drier skin and better coverage. I liked it better and will use Premium more that Water Fuse.

But, since Dr. Jart+ Premium Beauty Balm only comes in one light shade, I can’t give it a perfect score. Instead, I give it an…

While my nail-polishing mind has been almost exclusively obsessed with water marbling lately, I decided to take a break and try out some seriously neon green nail polish from POP Beauty.

The POP Beauty Nail Glam nail polish in Radioactive certainly lives up to the name. But, as with all nail polish, you have to take wear time, thickness and chipping into account.

Look how pretty it is!

What’s the color like?

In the bottle, Radioactive is a bright lime green with a slight blue sheen. You can see a bit of the blue toward the top of the bottle in the picture above.

It’s a bit different on the nails.

On the nails, the blue sheen is very understated. The nails look mostly like a big slate of green, although you can see the blue if you look really closely in the right light.

Also, this nail polish isn’t super shiny. I’d say it’s in between shiny and matte.

The coolest thing is the change it has in the sun. In shade, the green is fairly straightforward. But, in sunlight, it’s like a big, bright neon sign.

And I like that. I couldn’t stop staring at my nails every time I went outside.

How many coats is sufficient?

When I tried it, I needed 3 coats before I was happy with the coverage. While it goes on fairly thick, you can still see through it in just 1 coat.

To me, 3 is the most coats I’ll tolerate without starting to hate a nail polish. I’d prefer 2, though.

How long did it last?

When I tested this, I didn’t use a base or top coat. Just Radioactive straight from the bottle.

I’m pleased to tell you that Radioactive still looked good after 4 days. There was only minor chipping on my right hand (my main hand) and virtually none on my left.

Now, 6 days later, it’s starting to get a little too chippy. Time for new polish!

For nail polish virgins, 4 days without much chipping is pretty darn good.

The Final Verdict

This really is a pretty color. I love how POP Beauty Nail Glam in Radioactive shines so brightly in the sun. It made my fingers and toes look great. And since it takes a while to chip, it’s a fairly strong nail polish. Still, it needs 3 coats instead of the desired 1 or 2. For these reasons, I give Radioactive a…

They call it a “Multi-Action Skincare + Make Up.” I was confused when I first read that on the bottle. Especially by “Make Up.” That word (or combo of words) has many meanings.

Is it foundation? Tinted moisturizer? And how does that pair up with “multi-action skincare?”

I was excited to find out.

So, what is it exactly?

Water Fuse Beauty Balm is basically a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen and some skincare ingredients.

It’s SPF 25 and uses octinoxate (6%), octisalate (4.5%) and titanium dioxide (7.22%).

This stuff is similar to Philosophy Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer that I reviewed a while back.

Cool thing about Water Fuse is that it doesn’t have any synthetic dyes or fragrances and it’s oil-free

But, different from Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer, Water Fuse only comes in one beige shade.

How does it work?

Put a little bit of Water Fuse into your palm and dab onto your freshly cleaned face.

A small pea-sized amount worked well for full-face coverage.

I found that this blended into my skin best after I used a tint-less moisturizer first.

Can we see some results?

Sure! Here’s a before and after:

As you can see, the coverage is thin. I like that, though. If I wanted full coverage, I’d use a regular foundation instead. (click the picture for a closer view.)

I also found that it reduced redness pretty well, evened out my skin tone and it looked natural on my skin – not like makeup.

I found that Water Fuse had just a bit more coverage than Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer.

The Final Verdict

I liked the coverage I got with the Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm tinted moisturizer. It made my skin look better without having the painted look of too much foundation.Also, the 25 SPF prevented me from getting too much sun while outside, which is always good.

But, since this tinted moisturizer only comes in one shade, it leaves out many darker-skinned customers. For these reasons I give it a…

That’s the same grade as Philosophy Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer. They both had their downfalls and beat eachother in different categories, but in the end, they came out at a tie.

Siblings really shouldn’t fight like this.

Well, I took it away from them and claimed it for myself. It’s called the Lanmei 24 Color Eye Shadow Palette.

I picked up this palette for $0.15 (you read that right) at BidRack.com. BidRack lists it as being worth $24.95.

Here’s the weird thing, though. I couldn’t find much about this brand online. Lanmei doesn’t appear to have their own website.

The best I could find is some sales pages on eBay. Here’s the palette I have, selling right now for $9.89 buy-it-now price, and a listing of a bunch of other Lanmei products.

While this brand is a little mysterious, that didn’t stop me from testing out the 24 color eye shadow palette and giving it a thorough review.

Let’s see the palette, already!

The Lanmei palette features 24 different colors.

As you can see, it really has wide variety. Some of the colors look similar in the pans, but different in swatches (which you’ll see in a minute.)

As you can see, these eye shadows have some serious shimmer going on. Way more shimmer than any eye shadow I’ve tried, including MAC eye shadow.

What about swatches?

You like swatches, do you? Well, good news. I swatched each row of eye shadow colors. The top row:

The bottom row:

You can see that they’ve all got really good color pay-off. Even colors that don’t often show up in most brands, like the orange, looked great.

I also really like how shimmery and metallic they are. If you like foiled eye shadows, you can get that affect with these without any additional products.

Can we see it in action?

I’ve been experimenting with the Lanmei palette almost every day since I got it. Yeah, I’ve been having a lot of fun.

I featured one of these looks in a recent Face of the Day:

This tropical look features the white shade from the middle row, first blue shade in the top row, and the gold and bright green shades from the bottom row.

I’m really satisfied with all of the looks I’ve created with this.

Well, isn’t there anything bad about this palette?

While I’ve been super impressed by the colors, color payoff and super shimmery shadows, this palette isn’t perfect.

Some problems I’ve found:

• There’s a bit of fallout, though it was pretty easy to clean up with a little makeup remover.
• This palette has a scent. A very strong scent. It reminds me of a head shop or incense shop. It smells like a load of different incense fragrances mixed together. I’m not a fan of that. Luckily, I couldn’t smell it much when I was wearing it.
• These shadows crease a bit after hours of wear. This can be fixed if you wear a good eye shadow primer underneath.

The Final Verdict

Even though the Lanmei 24 Color Eye Shadow Palette does have its flaws, including its mysterious origins, I’m still very happy with the colors and the looks I can create with it. Still, with its fallout, creasing and scent, I can’t give it a perfect score. Instead, I give this palette a…

When you find a good mascara, it’s cause for celebration. So, I like to review many of these to find the best of the best.

That’s why I tried the Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara in Jet Black.

And, because I know you like it so much, I decided to turn this into a video tutorial. Check it out:

Then I pulled the pencil out of the package and was startled to find that it was…beige.

Beige? In a retractable liner pencil?

It’s called the Pixi Eye Bright Liner. It comes in only one color: Nude. (Which is a light beige color.)

Pixi calls it an “inner rim liner” that’s meant to brighten your eyes and make them look bigger and more awake. That’s always good!

Yeah, this is different. I just had to try this sucker out.

How does it work?

The Eye Bright Liner is just like any eyeliner. It’s self-retracting. You just twirl it and more comes out, easy as pie.

Except that instead of a black or brown color, it comes out light beige.

The tip is fine to help create a thin line. You can line around your eye and even on the waterline.

How’s the color?

It’s beige. Not much to say about that.

Although, Pixi does call it “Nude.” That’s only true if you have light skin. If you have darker skin, the color will stand out a lot more on you.

So, is it good?

The Eye Bright Liner does one thing very well: brightening the water line.

Basically, this liner is a good substitute for white eyeliner. It can do everything that white eyeliner can do (and there are a lot of cool things it can do), but the color isn’t as harsh, noticeable or bright.

So, if you’ve tried white eyeliner and thought it looked kind of tacky or too “out there”, this is a good alternative.

Nice, huh? It’s especially impressive on the lower waterline and on the inside corner of the eye. It made my eyes look a bit bigger and brighter.

Here’s the thing, though: if you like to reserve your waterline for dark eyeliners, you won’t find much purpose for this product. It has a very specific (and not oft-seen) use.

The Final Verdict

This isn’t an eyeliner. Sure, you could use it that way, but it won’t be very noticeable if the “Nude” color closely matches your skin. Instead, it works very well as a replacement for white eyeliner and sticks to the waterline for hours. If you’ve been looking for something that’ll make your eyes look brighter and more awake, this is for you. For these reasons, I give the Pixi Eye Bright Liner a…

There’s an exception: tinted moisturizer.

See, if I can just get a little bit of color, plus some skin quenching action, I’m happy.

That’s why I wanted to try the philosophy Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer.

Since I’m really pale, I tried it out in Extra Light, although it comes in 7 other shades as well.

How does it smell?

This isn’t something I normally talk about when it comes to foundation, mostly because the stuff usually has little or no scent.

Not the case with Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer. It smells like spices and black licorice. I’m not even kidding. And it’s kind of strong.

Now, I’m not a fan of the smell of black licorice. When I first used this, I was a little put off. But, with the addition of the spicy scent, the fragrance really grew on me. I like it now. I never thought I’d see the day.

But, since this scent is stronger than you’d expect, make sure you like black licorice and spices before buying this.

And, luckily, the scent fades away after an hour or so.

How does it work?

To use the tinted moisturizer, just pop off the cap and pump the stuff into your palm.

After some experimentation, I found that two pumps were perfect for me.

Then you just smooth it over your face and you’re good to go. You can apply it just like any other facial moisturizer.

Does it offer sun protection?

Yes, as a matter of fact, it does! Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer is SPF 20.

Active ingredients are octinoxate 7.5% and oxybensone 3.5%.

So, is it good or what?

I could totally write 500 words about this, but sometimes pictures are worth a thousand of them. Here’s my face without any makeup (as in, the “before” picture):

I was pretty sad about being pictured without makeup. Not gonna lie.

And here’s me after putting on philosophy Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer:

Better! The change is subtle (which I prefer). Compare the space between my eyebrows. You can really see the difference there. (You can click each picture for a closer look.)

I don’t look like I’m covered in a coat of beige paint. I love that. And I have a more even color overall.

So, yes, I like this tinted moisturizer. The color matched my skin well and was just enough coverage to hide some small imperfections.

Just a note: while this is a moisturizer, it’s pretty light. If you have dry skin, I suggest throwing on a layer of lotion and waiting a minute before using Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer. It’ll work better that way.

The Final Verdict

Just like any other tinted moisturizer, philosophy Hope in a Tinted Moisturizer is for people who only want minimal coverage from their foundation. If you like more coverage, this isn’t for you. Although the scent was strong, and kinda not good, I ended up getting used to it and liking it after a while. And added SPF is always good. For these reasons, I give it a…

You see, most people get stuck in a makeup rut. They do the same ol’ colors every day. They rarely break away from the mold. So Pixi came up with the Week of Wakeup Makeup, the answer to all stuck-in-a-rut prayers.

It comes with a completely different makeup look for each day of the week.

This big, heavy box comes with a lid on the top and two pull-out trays on each side.

On the left tray, you’ve got makeup for Monday and Tuesday. These days each have 3 eye shadows and 1 blush, and they share a lip gloss.

In the main middle section, you’ve got Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Each day has 3 eye shadows, 1 big blush and 2 lip glosses.

On the right tray, you’ve got looks for Saturday and Sunday with 3 eye shadows, 1 blush each, and 1 lip gloss shared between them.

That’s a total of 21 eye shadows, 7 blushes and 8 lip glosses.

Instead, I did a full face for each of the corresponding days. I applied everything in the exact same way for each day. I put the lightest eye shadow at the inside corner and up around to under the eyebrow, the medium shadow on the lid, and the darkest in the crease.

The blushes were applied to my cheeks and where there were two lip glosses, I combined them.

I also changed up the eyeliner and mascara for a bit of variety.  Check it out!

Getting’s slightly smoky on Tuesday.

I look tired, but it’s not the makeup’s fault. I just really needed a nap.

I wasn’t expecting the icy bluish silvers of Thursday to look good on me, but they totally did. And that lip gloss was awesome!

Those purples really matched my top.

The Final Verdict

I think the Pixi Week of Wakeup Makeup box is awesome. It really gives you a wide range of looks and it’s perfect for those in a makeup rut or for gals who have no idea what to do when it comes to color. I’d say the only downside is that the box is big, heavy and clunky. It wouldn’t fit in most purses. I’m honestly not sure where I’m going to store this as it doesn’t fit in my big drawer storage chest full of eye shadow.
