So icy and blue and awesome. It was so cute and everyone liked it, so I thought I’d do a tutorial.

And, just to be even more awesome, I did a video tutorial. If you want to do this makeup look, just follow along.

This look is perfect for people who are afraid of blue eye shadow or don’t think they can pull it off.  I always felt that way, but look! Super cute! So, try it out! It has subtle blue but is still dramatic.

I’ve decided to do a little makeup tutorial featuring all four colors of this quad. I’m calling the look ‘Bejeweled’.

Get ready for some serious makeup tutorial goodness!

Here are the products I used to get this look:

• L’Oreal True Match Blendable Makeup in Honey Beige around my eyes.
• Luzier Translucent Powder all over my face, setting the foundation.
• Stila Charmed Eye Shadow Palette
  • Pink on the crease

  • Gold on the lid and crease
• Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Palette in a light beige at the inside corner of the eye.
• L’Oreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Carbon Black on the top lid and on the bottom lid’s water line.
• Jane One Liners in Snowline on the top and bottom lid at the inside corner and in just about a centimeter.
• Max Factor Volume Couture Mascara in Black Brown on the top and bottom lashes.
• L’Oreal Bare Naturale All-Over Mineral Glow in Rose Glow as a blush on my cheek bones and temples.
• L’Oreal HiP Color Presso Lip Gloss in Trendy.

Now onto the tutorial. This is a bit different from my regular makeup tutorials. There’s less words! Just follow the pictures.

Tip: You may need to add a bit more blue after the last step, as I obviously needed to do.

Tip: Clean up any edges with a cotton square soaked in eye makeup remover.

Tip: Since the eye shadow is so bold in Bejeweled, stick with subdued lips.

This week, using the same eye shadow pallet as before (and pictured above), I’m going to show you how to do a mossy green/blue eye. This will use the Mildew, Shattered, Maui Wowie and Sin colors from the Urban Decay palette.

You won’t need any other brand of eye shadow.

So, let’s begin.

As always, you’ll want to start by priming your face.  Normally I would at least use some translucent powder. Today: nothing. I didn’t do anything to my face, other than some moisturizer this morning. It may be different for you, though, so check out Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Last week I used Sin as a primer over the entire lid. Not this time. I just start right out with the good stuff.

First, I used the Mildew shadow on the outer half of my eyelid. Starting from the outer corner of the eye, I used this metallic green eye shadow all the way to right in the middle of the lid.

Next, I used Shattered, a blue metallic shadow. I started about a centimeter from the inside corner of the eye and blended it right into the green shadow from the previous step. Don’t blend all of the Mildew away, but about half of it.

Now it’s time for Maui Wowie. This is a slightly glittery beige color. I used this at the inside corner of the eye and blended it into the Shattered color a bit. I also used it to highlight the brow bone by placing it just under the arch of my eyebrow, as you can see in the picture above.

Almost done. I used Sin, a light beige metallic shadow, just above the green and blue to soften the edges and to make the look more cohesive. It fills the gap between the shadow on the lid and the highlight on the brow bone.

Now that we’re done with eye shadow, we need to finish off the look with eyeliner and mascara.

It really makes a difference, doesn’t it?

I used:

• L’Oreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Carbon Black. I lined the top lid, very thin, and the bottom lid only on the water line.
• Lancome Fatale Exceptional Volume Sculpting 3D Mascara in Black. I used this for the top and bottom lashes.

If you want to throw on some lipstick, go right ahead. Here’s what I used:

• Luzier Lipstick in Chilled Burgundy.

And we’re done! Now it’s time to admire the overall beauty of this mossy makeup tutorial:

Done! Very pretty, in my book.

Well, guess what? I got it! With some X-mas money and a trip to Sephora, I picked up the Ammo Shadow Box by Urban Decay. It comes with ten colors which are either shimmer shadows, or glittery shadows.

Since then, I’ve been experimenting a lot with the colors, coming up with some good looks. Today, I’ll teach you a purple smoky eye look using only the shadow from this compact  So gather around to learn somethin’.

Before you begin following the directions in this makeup tutorial, you’ll want to get your face ready for makeup. Personally, I used some translucent face powder, but that’s about it. This is the point when you should foundation up, if you so choose. You can find out more about this step by checking out this previous post: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Alright, now that that’s over with, it’s time to use some eye shadow.

First, we’ll use Sin. This is the beige shimmer color.

Here, you’ll see that I used the Sin eye shadow over my entire lid. I’m using this kind of like a primer. It’ll help make the rest of the eye shadow go on smoother, and acts as a good base.

Next, use the Last Call shimmer shadow in the crease. You should start at the outside corner of the eye and work it from the lash line to just above the crease. Then, work it across your lid just in the crease. You should stop about two thirds across the lid. Blending is important here, and it’s a good idea to use a bristled eye shadow brush rather than the sponge-tipped applicator provided.

Once that’s done, you can use Grifter, a light purple, sparkly shadow, on your lid. This should go in the middle section near the lash line, and blend it in to the Last Call shadow you used in the previous step.

Time to use the Sin eye shadow again. Start at the inside corner of your eye and work the shadow into the Grifter, light purple shadow.

It’s also a good idea to use Sin right above the darkest part of the shadow to soften the lines a bit.

Finally, you can use Polyester Bride as a highlighter. This is the white, sparkly shadow in your Ammo Shadow Box. I used it at the inside corner of the eye, as well as just under the arch of my eyebrow. Just a dab will do you. Don’t overdo it.

Now that the shadow is over with, it’s time for the finishing touches. Here’s what I used to finish the look:

• Sephora Keep Kohl! Waterproof Liner in Keep Blue, just on the water line of the lower eyelid.
• Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black, on both the top and bottom lashes.
• Almay Ideal Gloss in Wine Shimmer.

Well, I always live up to a promise.

Today I’ll be using MAC eye shadow and lip gloss (along with some other brands) to get a great summer look.  I call this Tropical Storm because it uses tropical colors (blue, green, yellow.)  It’s also stormy and smoky.

This is a pretty heavy look, using a lot of color.  Because of this, you may want to limit it to special occasions.  For instance, it would look nice at some club after a long day at the beach.

Although, if you’re like me, you may want to wear it any ol’ time.  I really do like wearing a lot of makeup.

Get ready for the Tropical Storm makeup tutorial!

First, you must have an unmadeup face.  After all, it’s going to look weird if you add on this look over your regular daily makeup.

Oh how I love to not wear makeup.  (I don’t really mean that.)

Before you start on this tutorial, and after you’ve cleaned your face, you’ll want to put on any concealer, foundation or powder.  Since it’s summer (in the Northern Hemisphere anyway), you may want to forego any heavy foundation.  To learn more, read this: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Then, you will need to gather your supplies.

As usual, you are more than welcome to substitute wherever you can.  You don’t need to use the products that I use.  You can usually get about the same look with something similar in a different brand.

Here’s what I used:

1. MAC Eye Shadow in Submarine
2. MAC Eye Shadow in Newly Minted
3. MAC Eye Shadow in Chrome Yellow
4. Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Black
5. Loreal FeatherLash Water-Resistant Mascara in Black
6. MAC Lustreglass in Ornamental

It may look like a lot, but it’s not, I swear.  Just like I promised, this makeup tutorial uses a lot of MAC.

The very first step uses the Submarine eye shadow.  This is a bright blue frost color.  Using a medium eye shadow brush, from the outer corner of your eye up and across your crease.  It should be darkest and most saturated at the outside corner as it fades inward.  Check out the picture to get a good idea of what I’m talking about.

Next, grab the Newly Minted eye shadow.  This is a bright, matte green.  Sweep this over about 3/4 of your lid from the outside corner working inward.  Blend this in with the Submarine blue so that they join together seamlessly.

You should also do a strip of this Newly Minted green color on your lower lid as well.  This is going to look sort of like an eye liner.  I used a stiff natural bristle brush with an angled head.  You can see it in the equipment picture (it’s the brush with the white handle.)  Make sure you use a good brush or you may make the line too thick.

Now it’s on to Chrome Yellow, which is matte.  Starting at the inside corner, work this over the lid up to the crease.  Blend it in a bit with the green and blue.  You may need to apply the yellow several times for it to look right.

Like you did with the Newly Minted green, line the bottom lid, underneath the lashes with the Chrome Yellow eye shadow.  Instead of going across the entire bottom lid, start at the inside corner and go across to only about halfway.

For eyeliner, I used Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Black.  I lined just the bottom lid, on the inside of the lash line only.  No lining the top lid today.  This look is already harsh enough without it.

And, of course, mascara.  I used Loreal FeatherLash Water-Resistant Mascara in Black on the top and bottom lashes.  Beautiful, right?

For the lips, I used MAC Lustreglass in Ornamental.  This is a super shiny and shimmery lip gloss that’s tinted a light brown color.  Very cute.  Smells kind of like chocolate, too!

Well, that’s it.  That wasn’t too hard.  And for only having these MAC eye shadows for about six days, I think I did a good job.

See how the blue sort of adds a smoky eyes look to this?  I love me some green and yellow, too.

I don’t always like to play it safe. In fact, I like to go crazy sometimes. Many people would avoid the look I’m going to teach you today, but whatever. I think it’s cute!

I think about the fact that I have nearly every color in the rainbow when it comes to eye shadow, so why not have a look that is…well…a rainbow?

So, that’s exactly what I’m doing. Be prepared for Rainbow Eyes! This is the most colorful makeup look I’ve ever done. And you’ll get to see how I did it here.

Buckle up, because this is going to be fun.

Before you do anything else, you should start with a completely empty, naked face, as shown:

Beautiful, right? So makeupless and pure. Let’s see how I clean up, shall we?

Before you break out the eye shadow, it’s time to get your face ready. This often involves foundation, powder and the like. If you want a good idea of the process, you can read up on it in a previous post: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

After that, you should gather up your supplies for the Rainbow Eyes makeup tutorial.

This is all that I used, numbered for your convenience. If you don’t have the exact product that I do, you should be able to achieve this look with something similar.

1. Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet
2. Revlon Diamond Lust in Champagne Buzz
3. Jordana Easyliner for Eyes Retractable Pencil in Bliss
4. Cover Girl CG Eyeslicks in Glistening Gold

Now that you have all of that settled, you should start with your eye shadow. Since I’m using such a huge pallet, I took pictures of each color and made an easy to understand chart:

These shadows are all from the Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet. I used the classic Roy G Biv rainbow colors technique here, minus a step (Indigo). Except I’m doing it backward. You’ll understand in the next step. These are the colors in order:

1. Violet
2. Blue
3. Green
4. Yellow
5. Orange
6. Red

So, I started with violet at the outer corner of my eye. Here’s the rainbow progression:

It makes so much sense when you see it all in line like that. As you can see, I started at the outer corner and worked my way in. When you’re applying the eye shadow, make sure that you’re blending it in with the previous color as well, although not too much as we want the color progression to be obvious.

I used an eye shadow brush, like always.

Although I have the full rainbow now, I’m not done with eye shadow, I have one more step.

I used Revlon Diamond Lust in Champagne Buzz, a bright, shimmery shadow, and covered my whole lid. This softens the look. This way, I don’t look like I just stepped out of a nightclub. It is the middle of the day after all.

Now that you’re done with shadow, it’s on to eyeliner.

The first eyeliner I’m using is a bright blue eyeliner, Jordana Easyliner for Eyes Retractable Pencil in Bliss. This was really inexpensive at the drugstore.  The blue is supposed to signify the sky surrounding a rainbow, but it really is just used because it’s pretty.

But we’re not done.

I then used a fat, yellow liner on the bottom lid. I used Cover Girl CG Eyeslicks in Glistening Gold both above and below the lower lashes. It really brightens up the eye and the whole look in general.

No black eyeliner today!

For a finishing touch to the eyes, mascara is necessary. I used Mary Kay MK Signature Waterproof Mascara in Black on both the top and bottom lashes.

(For some reason I can never get the color in my lips pictures to match the eyes. Grrr.)

I got some new lip gloss yesterday that I had to try. So, today I used L’Oreal HiP Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss in Dreamer on my lips. It’s pretty nice. Perhaps I’ll do a review soon.

Pretty right? I showed my mom and she said that while I was masterful in my execution (I’m paraphrasing here) she would never wear it. I guess having rainbow makeup isn’t for everyone. It is for me, though.

How do you like Rainbow Eyes? Is it too bold for you, or just right? Now bold enough?

Sometimes it’s really hard to think up a good name for one of these tutorials.

I chose ‘blueberry’ this time because of the colors of that fruit. On the outside, it is a purple blue color, and on the inside, it’s a lighter pink and red.

This makeup tutorial, Blueberry Eyes, keeps that color scheme. You’ll learn what products you can use, and how to apply the makeup in such a way as to replicate the end product. Fancy, right?

This tutorial is also a good example of how you can get great looks with inexpensive makeup.

You will likely be starting with a blank and unmakeup’d face, like so:

I really do look a lot better with makeup on. I guess that’s the reason why I’ve gotten so good at it.

Before you start adding eye shadow, you’ll need to get your face ready for makeup. Depending on your own needs, this may entail using some lotion, foundation, and powder. For a detailed look at this step, visit a previous post on the subject: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Then, once you’re ready, it’s time to get all of your makeup together. This is what I used:

So we start with the primer:

Just like in a previous makeup tutorial, I used this Eye Primer, by Cupcake Cult, as a way to keep my shadow vibrant and saturated. Normally, when you don’t use a product like this, your eye shadow will be soft. I didn’t want a soft look this time.

After applying the primer over my entire lid with my fingers, I then put on some eye shadow:

This is the pallet that I used. It’s from Claire’s and it doesn’t have a special name or anything. Apparently, they don’t care if someone needs to refer to that pallet by name. I like this because it has a lot of pretty colors and it’s cheap. I got it for only $5.50.

As you can see, this comes with a sponge applicator. Mine is nice and clean because, well, I hate sponge applicators for eye shadow. I used an eye shadow brush instead.

I used another Claire’s pallet in a smoky eyes tutorial as well if you want to check that out.

As you can see in the picture above, I numbered the colors I used in chronological order. First, we start with the deep purple:

These colors are sort of a cross between a shimmer and an iridescent. When you’re out finding comparable colors, make sure they follow those guidelines.

I started with the deep purple at the outer corner of my eye, then worked it up and into my crease. You should get it just above your crease so that you can see it poking out above that line when your eyes are open. Don’t bring the color all the way to the other side of the lid, though. Halfway is fine.

Take the next color, a light blue, and apply it as shown in the picture. You should leave empty space near the inside corner of your eye for the third color.

The third and final color is an iridescent pinkish purple. Blend this in starting at the inside corner of the eye and work it into the first two colors. When you’re done blending, it should look like the picture above.

For a bit of extra pizzazz, I also took this pink color and lined underneath my lower lashes. You can see that in the next picture. It’s very subtle.

Next, apply the eyeliner. As I often do, I used the Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Black. It really is my favorite. For this look, I lined both the top and bottom lid.

For the top, you should make the line thickest at the outer corner of your lid, and work it all the way to the inside corner, getting much thinner as you go. The lower lid should be lined on the inside, above the lashes. Bring this from the outer corner until about one centimeter before the inside corner.

Use mascara for both the top and bottom lashes. I used Mary Kay MK Signature Waterproof Mascara in Black.

For my lips, I felt like having a sparkly pink look:

I started with just a bit of Wet N Wild Wild Shine Lipstick in Jaded Shine #328A. I blotted a lot because I only wanted a hint of this ultra bright pink lipstick.

Then, I coated it with Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Creme Femme. This is super sparkly. It also smells and tastes like caramel, so you really can’t beat that.

And, we’re done! Check out the after photos:

Pretty, right? It reminds me of blueberries in a way, which is why I called this look Blueberry Eyes.

I definitely didn’t mind walking around the mall with this look.

I had two inspirations for today’s makeup tutorial. First, the inspiration for the name. If you’ve ever seen waters surrounding a glacier, you’ll know that it can be a really bright blue-green color. It’s amazing, like something you would see at the best ocean beaches in the world. At Glacier National Park in Montana, US, they have these waters. The water turns this color because of ‘glacial dust.’ This was the inspiration for the name of this look, as well as the general color scheme.

I also got inspiration for this look from Christine over at Temptalia. She uses MAC to get some amazing eye makeup looks, and lately she’s been doing makeup similar to what I’m going to do here.

The biggest difference is that I won’t be using MAC. Not that I don’t like it or anything. I just want to show that you can do very similar makeup techniques with many different makeup brands.

So, Read on to learn how to do this Glacial Dust makeup technique featuring blue and green shades of eye shadow.

Just like always, you need to start with a clean and un-makeup’d face.

At some point I’m going to get sick of showing you my unmakeup’d face. Seriously.

Before you move on to any other steps, you need to get your face ready. This is different for everyone, but usually includes facial lotion, foundation, and translucent powder. To learn more, read up on this at one of my previous how-tos: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Now it’s time to get all of your materials ready. This is what I used for this blue and green eye shadow tutorial:

On to the tutorial!

Up until now, I haven’t used eye primer in any of my tutorials. Primer has two different uses. First, it helps smooth out your makeup so that it doesn’t crease over time. Second, it creates more vibrant colors. This is why I used it. Normally I like my eye shadow to be soft, but not this time. I wanted it to really stand out.

I used this creamy eye primer by Cupcake Cult with my fingers. I covered it on my lid wherever I planned to put shadow. You can’t really see it, or I’d put up a picture.

These are the shadows I used. Good luck finding them. Although they are by Luzier, who sells their makeup online, they don’t carry these colors anymore. Just for posterity, these are the colors in order of use:

1. #1947 Antique Blue
2. #1922 Pacific
3. #1936 Honey

Use the first, blue eye shadow. This blue is very shimmery. In fact, all the shadows are ultra shimmery for this makeup tutorial. You want to be bright and shiny for this.

As you can see in this closed view, you should apply the first blue shadow to the eye in an arch in the crease. Start at the outer corner and work up and around like in the picture. I implore you to use an eye shadow brush instead of sponge applicator. As I detailed in Battle of the Makeup Applicators: Powder, Eye Shadow, Blush, it is just a better makeup brush to use.

The next color is green:

Here’s the open view. You should put this green eye shadow on the empty space in the middle of your lid. You should also blend it into the blue so that they look…well..blended.

This is what it looks like when the eye is closed. You can see that the green on the main part of the lid melts in with the blue in the crease and outer corner. It’s looking more and more like Glacial Dust every step.

On to the next step:

The yellow shadow is used as a highlighter. It is also used in order to soften up the previous colors.

Check out the closed view:

Sweep this pale yellow from the inside corner of your eye and along the lash line about an inch. This will brighten up your eye significantly. You should also sweep it just below your eyebrows and into that blue shadow. This will soften the line so that the makeup doesn’t look so gaudy and harsh.

Eyeliner! For something a little different, I put the black eye liner only on the lower eyelid, above the lashes. This gives the eye a bit of an interesting pop. I used Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner.

And here’s the eye with mascara. The finished eye. Mascara both the top and bottom lashes. It’ll look better. I used Mary Kay MK Signature® Waterproof Mascara in Black.

You’re not done, though. Don’t forget the lips.

Since I was doing something pretty bold for the eyes, I wanted something soft for the lips. I used Almay Hydracolor Lipstick in #545 Pink Pearl. This is a pretty pale pink with a bit of shimmer. I then topped it with Cover Girl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers in Lemon Splash to make it glossy and smooth.

Done! That’s it! A classy professional makeup tutorial in only a few steps. Check out the after photos:

Frankly, I was proud of myself with this look. It’s different from what I normally do. I’d say I did a good job trying to match the looks that people get with MAC cosmetics.

I call it Steely Smoke Eyes. Why? Because it has a bluish-grey tint to it that reminds me of steel. As you can tell by now, I tend to name my makeup techniques after the things they remind me of. So clever!

This look is best for special occasions or when you really want to make a statement.

As with all makeup techniques, you’ve got to start with an empty face:

Oh, how darling. Before we move on, you need to prepare your face for makeup. Learn to do so at one of my previous posts: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Now it’s time to gather up all of your supplies.

You’ll be using eyeliner, various shadows, mascara, and lip gloss. I’ll explain each item as we go along.

Unlike previous tutorials, we’re starting with eyeliner today instead of eye shadow:

I used a khol pencil eyeliner today. I put a thick line on my upper eyelid. You don’t have to worry too much on how this looks. It doesn’t have to be perfect since you’ll be putting a lot of shadow over it anyway. I used Prestige Soft Blend Khol Eyeliner in Jet Black.

Now you can start the shadow:

The first color is going to be a dark grey shadow with a bit of a shimmer to it. I used a color pallet from Claire’s. They just call the pallet ‘Eye Shadow’ and there’s no other name for it. It consists of greys and blues (as you can see in the equipment picture above.) I liked using this pallet in the makeup tutorial because it shows that you can achieve an awesome look even with cheap makeup.

Apply the dark grey shadow as shown:

Sweep this shadow along where you put your eyeliner. Toward the outer corner of your lid, start arching upward. I use an eyeshadow brush, and I highly recommend it. The sponge applicators that usually come with shadow, well, suck.

Next, you’ll choose a dark blue color, also shimmery. This is from that same Claire’s pallet, although you’ll do fine with something similar from a different brand.

Apply this color as shown above. Blend it in with that first dark grey shadow. You should go about one third of the way in from the outside of your lid. You should also blend it to a bit above your crease.

And here it looks with eyes closed:

As you can see, the shadow comes at an angle away from the inside corner of the eye, rather than straight up.

This next shadow is somewhat of a medium to light blue. As with the others, this shadow has a shimmer.

This is how it will look with the eyes open. You should use this shadow to fill up the rest of the lid. Spread it across starting at the inner corner and work your way into the other colors. This will blend them together so that they look seamless. Spread the color up to match the height of what you did with the other shadows.

And here’s how it looks open! While we’re done with the Claire’s pallet, we still have one more shadow step to go.

Now you’re going to use a light, shimmery shadow. While the colors I already used had some shimmer, I really want to pump this up. I used Revlon Diamond Lust in Champagne Buzz.

Sweep this shadow over the entire lid. Cover everywhere that you already put shadow. This will soften the look a bit and will also add that extra bit of sheen we all love so much.

Done with shadow! Now for the finishing touches.

Mascara always does the trick! Put it on both the top and bottom lashes. Black is best since this is meant to be a bit of a dark look. I used Mary Kay MK Signature® Waterproof Mascara in black.

Since my eyes are shimmery, I wanted a shimmery lip as well. I chose my most sparkly lip gloss: Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Creme Femme.

We’re done! That was easy, wasn’t it? Now for the after pictures:
