Today, I decided to show you how to use red and pink eye shadow to create an adorable look. All eye shadow colors were matte. I’ve dubbed it Candycane. And, as luck would have it, it’s a video makeup tutorial!

I’ve decided to do a little makeup tutorial featuring all four colors of this quad. I’m calling the look ‘Bejeweled’.

• Max Factor Volume Couture Mascara in Black Brown on the top and bottom lashes.
• L’Oreal Bare Naturale All-Over Mineral Glow in Rose Glow as a blush on my cheek bones and temples.
• L’Oreal HiP Color Presso Lip Gloss in Trendy.

Now onto the tutorial. This is a bit different from my regular makeup tutorials. There’s less words! Just follow the pictures.

Tip: You may need to add a bit more blue after the last step, as I obviously needed to do.

Tip: Clean up any edges with a cotton square soaked in eye makeup remover.

Tip: Since the eye shadow is so bold in Bejeweled, stick with subdued lips.

I’m calling this makeup tutorial Daily Lipstick Look.  Because, frankly, I couldn’t think of anything better.

And it is replacing the daily look for today.

In today’s look, you’ll also learn a bit of a cat eye using liquid eyeliner.

Let’s get started!

We always start with a bare face:

Yeah, lovely…

I used just a bit of translucent powder today.  You can use whatever right here, whether it’s foundation or whatever.  You can learn more about this step here: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Also, you may want to beautify your eyebrows in this step.  I used eyebrow powder.

Now you’ll need your supplies.  Although you can use whatever you want (as long as it gets a similar look) here’s what I used:

1. Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet
2. N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black
3. Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black
4. Loreal Color Riche Lipstick in Penelope’s Red

Now that we have everything, it’s time to really start.

Now, the colors you do for your eyes are completely up to you.  This look can change because the colors you choose are going to be subtle anyway.

Since I’m wearing pink, I chose pink.  See?

First, I picked a bright, hot pink from the Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet.  I swept just a little bit from the middle of my lip out to the outside corner.

Then I used a lighter, softer pink.  I blended this into the first color and used it across the lid, leaving the innermost inch empty.

Finally, I used a light white/beige color at the inside corner, blending it into the light pink.

Such a soft, subdued look.  Just what I wanted!

Now, eyeliner.  I swear that line looked straighter in person.  I swear!

I used N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner.  I swept it from the outside corner inward.  To make the cat eye, I took small, slow strokes so that I had the most control.

You can see the desired shape in the picture above.

Then, mascara.  I used Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara. I used it liberally on both the top and bottom lashes.

Lips!  Here’s the boldest part of the whole look.  I used a red lipstick because it stands out the most.  I used Loreal Color Riche Lipstick in Penelope’s Red.

I didn’t use lip liner, because I didn’t want it to look harsh.  Instead, I just took the lipstick and applied it straight from the tube.  No lip brushes for me!

Blotting is important.  It gets rid of excess lipstick and can help set the color.

Now, it’s time for the after shots:

Tah dah!

I’d say it’s pretty.  And super bold where the lips are concerned.

Pink is my favorite color.  Can you tell?

So, of course, I need to do a look with some great pink colors.  Heck, the vast majority of my clothes are pink.  I might as well match.

Today, I’m going to show you a super cute pink look that sort of reminds me of geranium flowers.  That’s why I’ve called it Geranium. Creative, no?

You may notice that the pictures in this tutorial are better than previous ones.  Yeah, I’m getting the hang of this.

So read on for the Geranium makeup tutorial.

As always…

Yeah, I’m not wearing any makeup.  If I look better than normal, it’s because I just re-tweezed my eyebrows.  Nice!

Before I show you this makeup tutorial, you should do all of the steps you normally have in your routine.  This means any lotion, foundation, powder, whatever.  You can refer to a previous article for help: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

It’s makeup time.

Of course, you need products, right? You can’t put on makeup with your mind.

Here’s everything I used to get this look:

1. Cupcake Cult Eye Primer
2. MAC Eye Shadow in Post Haste
3. Luzier Eye Shadow in Burgundy Ice
4. Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet
5. N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black
6. Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black
7. Claire’s Lip Gloss

That’s it!  And away we go.

First, we’re going to use Post Haste, a MAC Eye Shadow.  This is a darkish, slightly muted pink.  I put this on the outside corner (where it’s darkest) and into the crease.

Then I added the Luzier Eye Shadow, Burgundy Ice.  This is a shimmery mixture of pink and yellow.  Blend this over the entire lid and just above the crease.

Since I felt that it still didn’t have enough pink, I used a bright ‘hot pink’ from my Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet.  I used just a little bit over the first pink color, and onto more of the lid as well.  See the picture!

Then, I used a very light beige, also from the Elite pallet.  This time, I used it on the inside corner of the eye (blending out about one centimeter).  Then I used it under the arch of the brow to create a highlight.

That’s all for eye shadow in this makeup tutorial.  Super quick.

For eyeliner I used N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner because I wanted a look that stood out and that was a bit retro.  I used this just on the top lid.

And yes, I screwed it up a bit.  Liquid eyeliner is hard!

I used Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black on the top and bottom lashes.  Man, it sure does make them look long!

Last, but not least, lips.  I didn’t want to go too overboard today, so I just added some shimmery pink lip gloss from Claire’s.

Nice, huh?  I loved doing the Geranium makeup tutorial.  Pinks seem to look good on me.  And, news flash, pinks look good on a lot of people.

Purple is so in right now.  I went to a clothing store the other day and almost everything on the racks had purple in it.  (It’s a shame.  I wish pink was in right now, but I guess purple is the new pink.)

In the makeup world, smoky eyes is in right now as well.  I decided to put these two trends together, so I created Plum Smoke.

Did you know that you can do a smoky eyes look without using any grey or black eye shadow?  It’s true.  The smoke in this tutorial is subtle, but still so totally adorable, without any of those colors.

This look also has a vintage feel based on how I did the eyeliner and mascara.  If you like vintage makeup techniques, then you’ll like this look.

Of course, you have to start this tutorial with a clean face.  Them’s the rules!  And that’s what I did:

While it may look like I’m naked in that picture, I’m totally not!  I was actually wearing a plum colored, striped tube top.  I swear!  I wore it because it was the only thing I have the matched this tutorial look well.

And after doing this look, I may need to buy more plum clothes.

Before we gather our supplies, you’ll want to get your face ready.  I suggest at least using facial power on your eyes, which will make it easier to blend your eye shadow.  To find out more: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Now, we can do supplies.

I’m actually using three different brands of eye shadow for this look.  It’s a good example of how you can use just about anything and still look good.

Keep in mind, you can substitute all of this if you don’t have it, but this is what I used, in order of appearance:

Alright!  Let’s get started!

This is a bit hard to see, because it’s so subtle.  The first step uses Luzier Eye Shadow in Wisteria (Desperate Housewives, anyone?  I didn’t think so.)  This is a soft plum color, which is somewhat light and has a bit of shimmer.  I’m using this as a primer and a base.  I’ll explain:

Layering is important with shadow. It helps you blend.  Since I’m going to be using a dark shadow next, it’s even more important to have a base.  So, I blended this eye shadow into the crease and just above and below.  I also blended it in to the outside corner of the eye, up from the lash line.

Now we’ll use the darker shadow.  This is a MAC Eye Shadow in Shadowy Lady. This is a dark plum, matte eye shadow.  It looks mostly dark grey in the packaging, but when you put it on, it has this interesting smoky plum color, perfect for this look.

I blended this in at the outer corner of the lid and into the crease.  Try not to go too much out of the crease.  The color should be darker at the outside corner, and lighter as you go in.  You can achieve this by blending back and forth with a medium eye shadow brush.

Then, I used the Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet.  I actually used two different colors.

First, I used a lighter purple/pink color.  This is blended into the rest of the eyelid, starting at the inner corner and working your way into the rest of the previous eye shadows.  You can see this in the picture above.

Then, I used a very light beige color for highlights and accents.  First, I put it right below the arch of my eyebrow, from the arch to the end.  This adds highlight and makes my eyes look bigger.   Then I put it at the inside corner of my eye, blending it into the purple for about a half an inch.

You can see those results in the next pictures.

I decided to do the eyeliner in a bit of a vintage look.  For this, you will need liquid eyeliner because it gives a harsh line that was really popular in the 40s, 50s and 60s.  I used N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black, which I’ve actually reviewed.

Use this liner to create a straight, sleek line from one corner to the other on the top lid.  It should be thickest at the outside corner, and it’s a good idea to end it in a point there.  Check out the picture above to get a good idea of what I did.

I didn’t line the bottom lid.

Another vintage trend from the same era was to accentuate the top lashes instead of the bottom.  You see, the trend right now is to mascara both the top and bottom lashes.  Today, I’m only doing the top.

I used Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black, which I reviewed a few weeks ago.

Finally, the lips.  Since the eyes in this makeup tutorial are sort of soft and subtle (although super adorable and smoky) I decided to make the lips subtle as well.  I used Mary Kay MK Signature NouriShine Lip Gloss in Gold Rush, which is a medium brown/gold color with shimmery and shine.

We are SO done.  Check out the after photos:

Again, I’m not naked, just wearing a tube top, which you can’t see.

In the end, I really loved this look.  I couldn’t stop looking in the mirror, which is a good sign.  It’s right up there with Rainbow Eyes, which is also one one my favorites.

The Plum Smoke look would be great with a lot of things.  Since yellow is it’s complementary color, you could wear this look with a yellow themed outfit if you don’t have any purple.  Also, since it’s so subtle, you could wear it with a lot of other colors as well, including green and brown.

Soft Rust?

Today, I’ll be teaching you how to get a beautiful rusty colored makeup look on your eyes, as well as a soft rust color on your lips.  This look is going to be a bit more subtle than what you are expecting, I’m sure.

Where you wear this look depends on how comfortable you are with makeup on.  I could wear this anywhere, including work and on a date.  Those who aren’t used to a lot of makeup may want to limit this look only for special occasions.

So, get ready for the Soft Rust makeup tutorial.

First, as always, we start with a bare, naked face. Sounds dirty, doesn’t it?

Here I am!  No makeup – so sad.

Since foundation, powder and the like are very dependent on your own preferences, and really repetitive, I won’t detail that here.  You can learn a bit more about the subject, though: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

After that, you need to gather your supplies.

You can see what I used in the picture above.  If you have something else that gives you a similar look, feel free to use that instead.

Here’s what I used, in order:

1. Cupcake Cult Eye Primer
2. Luzier Eye Shadow
3. e.l.f. Brightening Eye Liner in Black
4. Loreal FeatherLash Water-Resistant Mascara in Black
5. Mary Kay MK Signature NouriShine Lip Gloss in Sweet Raisin

That’s all you need.  The first step is primer.

I use Cupcake Cult Eye Primer to get a smooth and vibrant look.  If I would have skipped this step, the overall look of this eye makeup would look much softer in the end.  You may want to keep that in mind.

These are the eye shadows I used, Luzier Eye Shadow.  I used them in the order based on the numbers in the picture.  I used:

1. Penny
2. Burgundy Ice
3. Honey

You’ll do fine if you use colors that are similar, since these will be hard to find.

With the first color, Penny, sweep it along the crease of your lid, starting at the outer corner of your eye and working it into an arch.  This is a rusty, shimmer color.  The color should be densest and darkest on the outside of this arch.

I use a medium shadow brush (as you can see in my equipment picture) as opposed to a sponge tipped applicator, as it’s just better.

Next you’ll use the second color, Burgundy Ice.  This is a mixture of yellow and burgundy shadows.  Sweep this on the main part of your lid and into the crease, blending it with the first color.  You should also put it just above your crease as well.  You can already see the first color mellowing out.

You will then use the third color, Honey on the rest of the lid.  Blend this into the inside corner of your lid.  You should also blend it on your brow bone just under your eyebrow for a little highlight.

That’s it for eye shadow!  It was just that easy.  Next, it’s eyeliner.

Normally, I will line the entire top lid.  Not today.  Instead, for this makeup look, you should start at the outer corner and draw a line only to about halfway across your upper lid.  The line will be thick at the corner and thinner as you draw inward.  Don’t line the bottom lid.  I used e.l.f. Brightening Eye Liner in Black.

Ahh, mascara, one of the most important parts of any look.  Today, I used Loreal FeatherLash Water-Resistant Mascara in Black on both the top and bottom lashes.  Be careful not to get it all over your eyelids and face.

Finally, the lips.  I chose a lip gloss, Mary Kay MK Signature NouriShine Lip Gloss in Sweet Raisin, that has the same sort of rusty color as the makeup on my eyes.  It’s a tinted gloss so I completely forewent the lipstick.

And…we’re done!  Time for the after shots:

I ended up really liking this look, and I plan to wear it often.  Soft Rust goes well with a lot of clothing, since it tends to be pretty neutral.

I call this look Simple and Clean because it has a freshness about it. You’ll look amazing while not having that much makeup on. At least it will seem that way anyway.

I actually got some of the idea for this look from the steps in the Vintage Pinup Girl Video, although I changed some things around.

Get ready, because we’re about to learn the Simple and Clean makeup tutorial.

You’ll be starting with a naked face:

Oh how unhappy I am without makeup on.

Before you do anything else, you’ll need to get your face ready for all of this. Since we’re going light and breezy today, you’ll want to avoid any heavy foundations and powders. I only used some translucent powder for this one. Less is more!

Now you can start the look. Here’s everything you’ll need:

As always, you can find similar products that can do just as good of a job, so if you don’t have one of these exact items, don’t worry. You should be able to get the same look with something else that looks similarly. Here’s what I used:

Once you’ve got everything ready, it’s time to start the makeup tutorial.

You’ll be using three different colors of eye shadow today. I’ll be using them in the order seen in the picture. The first, second and fourth colors are from the Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet. The third is Luzier Eye Shadow in Burgundy Ice.

Take the first color, a shimmery medium pink, and blend it into your crease and brow bone. When you’re eyes are open, you should see this color poking out above your crease. The color should be in an arched shape.

The second color you’ll use is a very muted brown. It should only be a little bit darker than you’re natural skin color. Blend into your crease only. By putting it in the crease, you’ll also be blending it with the first pink color a bit.

The third color is by Luzier and is a mixture of pink and gold shimmer eye shadow. Spread this over your lid. This won’t look too much different than your regular skin, which is what we want.

The final color is strictly for highlights. You should choose an almost-white cream color. Either matte or shimmer is good. I used a matte color. Put this just below the arch of your eyebrow, above the pink line. Also put this in the inside corner of your eye.

Super Makeup Trick: Highlighting like this makes your eyes look brighter, larger, and more awake.

After all that super subtle eye shadow, it’s time for some eyeliner. Normally, people put liner on their top lid and only sometimes on the bottom. For this look, you’re going to put it only on the bottom, on the inside of the lid. I used Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Black.

Super Makeup Trick: Lining just the lower lid makes your eyes look bigger and interesting without looking like you have a lot of makeup on. You’ll also notice that the irises of your eye (the colored part) will be more pronounced and noticeable.

Then, it’s time for mascara:

The mascara part of the Simple and Clean look is pretty straight forward. You should mascara both the top and bottom lashes. Be careful not to get mascara on your top lid. I have a hard time with that myself. I used Mary Kay MK Signature® Waterproof Mascara in Black.

I don’t always use blush, but I used it today:

Make sure you choose the right blush for this. You’ll want it to look as realistic as possible. I used Loreal Bare Naturale All Over Mineral Glow, as it’s my favorite. As you can see in the picture above, I didn’t just put it on the apples of my cheeks. Instead, I started at the apples and worked in small circles up around the temple and onto a bit of the forehead, following the line that I illustrated.

For the lips, I wanted to add very little color. We are being Simple and Clean, you know. So I used Cover Girl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lip Gloss in Raspberry Splash to add a bit of shine and shimmer with barely any color. That’s it!

We’re done. That was easy, wasn’t it? Now for the after photos:

It’s a pretty simple look. You’ll be wearing very little makeup, yet will be obviously much prettier than you were before (unless you’re one of those people who look amazing without makeup.) Since it’s so simple, and clean, you can wear it just about anywhere.

Sometimes it’s really hard to think up a good name for one of these tutorials.

I chose ‘blueberry’ this time because of the colors of that fruit. On the outside, it is a purple blue color, and on the inside, it’s a lighter pink and red.

This makeup tutorial, Blueberry Eyes, keeps that color scheme. You’ll learn what products you can use, and how to apply the makeup in such a way as to replicate the end product. Fancy, right?

This tutorial is also a good example of how you can get great looks with inexpensive makeup.

You will likely be starting with a blank and unmakeup’d face, like so:

I really do look a lot better with makeup on. I guess that’s the reason why I’ve gotten so good at it.

Before you start adding eye shadow, you’ll need to get your face ready for makeup. Depending on your own needs, this may entail using some lotion, foundation, and powder. For a detailed look at this step, visit a previous post on the subject: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Then, once you’re ready, it’s time to get all of your makeup together. This is what I used:

So we start with the primer:

Just like in a previous makeup tutorial, I used this Eye Primer, by Cupcake Cult, as a way to keep my shadow vibrant and saturated. Normally, when you don’t use a product like this, your eye shadow will be soft. I didn’t want a soft look this time.

After applying the primer over my entire lid with my fingers, I then put on some eye shadow:

This is the pallet that I used. It’s from Claire’s and it doesn’t have a special name or anything. Apparently, they don’t care if someone needs to refer to that pallet by name. I like this because it has a lot of pretty colors and it’s cheap. I got it for only $5.50.

As you can see, this comes with a sponge applicator. Mine is nice and clean because, well, I hate sponge applicators for eye shadow. I used an eye shadow brush instead.

As you can see in the picture above, I numbered the colors I used in chronological order. First, we start with the deep purple:

These colors are sort of a cross between a shimmer and an iridescent. When you’re out finding comparable colors, make sure they follow those guidelines.

I started with the deep purple at the outer corner of my eye, then worked it up and into my crease. You should get it just above your crease so that you can see it poking out above that line when your eyes are open. Don’t bring the color all the way to the other side of the lid, though. Halfway is fine.

Take the next color, a light blue, and apply it as shown in the picture. You should leave empty space near the inside corner of your eye for the third color.

The third and final color is an iridescent pinkish purple. Blend this in starting at the inside corner of the eye and work it into the first two colors. When you’re done blending, it should look like the picture above.

For a bit of extra pizzazz, I also took this pink color and lined underneath my lower lashes. You can see that in the next picture. It’s very subtle.

Next, apply the eyeliner. As I often do, I used the Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Black. It really is my favorite. For this look, I lined both the top and bottom lid.

For the top, you should make the line thickest at the outer corner of your lid, and work it all the way to the inside corner, getting much thinner as you go. The lower lid should be lined on the inside, above the lashes. Bring this from the outer corner until about one centimeter before the inside corner.

Use mascara for both the top and bottom lashes. I used Mary Kay MK Signature Waterproof Mascara in Black.

For my lips, I felt like having a sparkly pink look:

I started with just a bit of Wet N Wild Wild Shine Lipstick in Jaded Shine #328A. I blotted a lot because I only wanted a hint of this ultra bright pink lipstick.

Then, I coated it with Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush Lip Gloss in Creme Femme. This is super sparkly. It also smells and tastes like caramel, so you really can’t beat that.

And, we’re done! Check out the after photos:

Pretty, right? It reminds me of blueberries in a way, which is why I called this look Blueberry Eyes.

I definitely didn’t mind walking around the mall with this look.

Watermelon Eyes is intended to be bright and clean. It’s a look perfect for spring. It’s also great for both day and night.

Like in a previous tutorial, Sunrise Eyes, I am using an 88 color eye shadow pallet from Elite Pro Cosmetics. You can use whatever you want just as long as you attempt to match the colors that I use. The first color is a deep, dark pink.

Apply the deep pink eye shadow to the outer corner of your eye. Near the lash line, it should come in about one third of the way, but angle out sharply so that there is just a small triangle of color, as you see above. Also sweep this color onto your lower lid, deeper at the outer corner and fading inward about one third of the way.

Onto the next color!

The next color is a lighter, shimmery pink shadow. This is more of a delicate, pastel pink.

Blend in this new pink color as shown above. It should make it about halfway across your upper lid. Also blend it in with the first color a bit so that there is a seamless transition between the two colors of eyeshadow. As you can see, I’m applying the color a ways above my crease, but not up to the eyebrow. After all, I don’t want to look like a Barbie Doll from the 80s!

And now, for the third color:

Here’s the rind of the watermelon! I chose a lighter and slightly shimmery green color. It’s less lime and more army green, although still very light.

Apply to the lid in this way:

Although the rind of a watermelon is normally on the outside (always, actually), you’ll be putting the green on the inside. Starting from the inside corner of your eye, sweep the green shadow across the lid and toward the pink shadow from the last step. You should overlap the colors a bit. This won’t create a seamless transition since green and pink are so different, but it will soften the look up a bit.

You’re not done! There’s one more eyeshadow trick left:

Next, you should use some highlighting shadow. You could use a product that’s labeled as ‘highlighter’, but that’s not necessary. Just pick up some regular eye shadow that just happens to be light and ultra-shimmery. I used Revlon Diamond Lust in Champagne Buzz.

As you can kind of see above, you should apply the shimmery shadow to the inside corner of your eye, and just below your eyebrows. This will highlight your features and give you a brighter look all around. You’ll definitely look more awake.

You’re done with shadow, but not done with the rest of the look.

Now time for eyeliner! Black is best for this look. Create a line that is thicker at the outer corner and thinner as you go inside. This line should be pretty thin in general. Since Watermelon Eyes is more of a soft, pretty look, avoid lining your lower lid. I used Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner, which I reviewed last week.

Don’t forget about mascara! I once finished my makeup and thought, ‘this doesn’t look right.’ It turns out, I forgot mascara. It can really make a difference!

Although I used black mascara, you can use brown if you prefer that. I applied the mascara to both the top and bottom lashes because, well, it looks better. I used Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume Mascara.

Yes, I wear blush. Today, I used Revlon Golden Affair in Rose Rapture, applying it with a medium, soft round brush. I swept it from the ball of the cheek, up toward the temple. Using a lighter, brighter color of blush is best for this makeup technique.

Finally, the lips:

A light, shimmery pink lipstick or lip gloss is best for Watermelon Eyes. I used Prestige PL-45A: Desire, and blotted with a tissue, repeatedly!

All done! You should now be as pretty as you can get with green and pink eyeshadow. Do your eyes look like watermelons? Mine do:
