To create a colorful, metallic eye shadow look consisting of gold, pink, blue and plum, follow this tutorial using the Stila Charmed Eye Shadow Palette. The look is called Bejeweled!

Gold and metallics are in! Really, when are they not?

Stila came out with an eye shadow quad called ‘Charmed’. Not only is it metallic, but it has real 24k gold in it. Fancy! (It’s on sale for $10 right now.)

I’ve decided to do a little makeup tutorial featuring all four colors of this quad. I’m calling the look ‘Bejeweled’.

Get ready for some serious makeup tutorial goodness!

Here are the products I used to get this look:

L’Oreal True Match Blendable Makeup in Honey Beige around my eyes.

Luzier Translucent Powder all over my face, setting the foundation.

Stila Charmed Eye Shadow Palette

Jane One Liners in Snowline on the top and bottom lid at the inside corner and in just about a centimeter.

Max Factor Volume Couture Mascara in Black Brown on the top and bottom lashes.

L’Oreal Bare Naturale All-Over Mineral Glow in Rose Glow as a blush on my cheek bones and temples.

Now onto the tutorial. This is a bit different from my regular makeup tutorials. There’s less words! Just follow the pictures.

Tip: You may need to add a bit more blue after the last step, as I obviously needed to do.

Tip: Clean up any edges with a cotton square soaked in eye makeup remover.

Tip: Since the eye shadow is so bold in Bejeweled, stick with subdued lips.

What did you think? Would you try this look?

Smokey eyes have been in high demand for quite some time now. While I’ve done some smokey eyes makeup tutorials in the past, why not try another one?

Today, I’m doing a smokey eye, as stated. I’m also doing a look that uses as few beauty products as possible. Most of my looks use, like six products. Today, I’ll only be using four.

Another difference with today’s look is the lips. Normally, I do some lip gloss or neutral lipstick and that’s it. Not today! I’ve got some red lips to show you!

Anyway, the main color scheme is gold, so today’s tutorial is entitled: Gold Smoke. Makes sense, right?

As always, with start with a fresh face.

Don’t I look like a deer caught in headlights? Yikes!

Before proceeding, you should do any of your face tricks you use before a regular makeup look. Today, I used foundation and translucent powder. Oh, and some bronzer on my cheeks, nose and forehead. You can learn more here: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Now, get your supplies for this makeup tutorial:

You can use whatever you want, as long as it’s similar to what I used:

Loreal HiP Metallic Shadow Duo in #806 Gilded

Incolor FabuLiner Liquid Eye Liner in Brown

Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black

Loreal Color Riche Lipstick in Penelope’s Red

Smokey eyes usually have some sort of dark color. I’m using the Loreal HiP Metallic Shadow Due today. It’s called ‘Gilded’ and has two colors. For this step, I am using the dark grey color. It’s a chalky black with gold flecks.

Spread this color across your crease into the outside corner of your eye. Don’t worry too much about how it looks because it’ll be blended up.

The other color in this duo is a super-metallic gold. Put this over your entire lid until just above your crease. Doing this will blend it in so much that the first application of the dark grey will have faded significantly.

Because it faded, I reapplied some more of the dark grey on top of the gold. This made it look more smokey. I applied it in the same spot that I did in the first step, and not on the entire lid.

I also added some of the dark grey to my bottom lid. Using a thin eye shadow brush, I lined the lid from the outside corner and in about 1/3 of the way.

For eyeliner, I used Incolor FabuLiner in Brown. They call this a liquid liner, but it applies like a long felt-tip marker. I like that.

I used this only on the top lid. The line is thickest at the outside corner and gets thinner as you move in.

A final touch to the eye: Mascara. I used the new Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black. It makes my eyes look like giant leggy black spiders are climbing out of them.

I kind of like that.

To finish off the look, I did some red lips. So rare for me! Mostly because I have the hardest time finding a red lipstick that looked even halfway decent on me.

Turns out that the Loreal Color Riche lipstick in Penelope’s Red looks best. That is supposed to be celebrity Penelope Cruz’s perfect color. We match! Me and Penelope are twins.

Okay, we’re done. Now strike a pose!

I’m not totally convinced that those red lips go well with the overall look. I mean, they’re good on their own, but maybe not with those eyes. I think it would help if my hair was down and I was wearing an appropriate outfit.

What do you think? Do the lips go well with the eyes?

All in all, though, I really liked the Gold Smoke look. I hope you liked it, too!

Pink is my favorite color. Can you tell?

So, of course, I need to do a look with some great pink colors. Heck, the vast majority of my clothes are pink. I might as well match.

Today, I’m going to show you a super cute pink look that sort of reminds me of geranium flowers. That’s why I’ve called it Geranium. Creative, no?

You may notice that the pictures in this tutorial are better than previous ones. Yeah, I’m getting the hang of this.

So read on for the Geranium makeup tutorial.

As always…

Yeah, I’m not wearing any makeup. If I look better than normal, it’s because I just re-tweezed my eyebrows. Nice!

Before I show you this makeup tutorial, you should do all of the steps you normally have in your routine. This means any lotion, foundation, powder, whatever. You can refer to a previous article for help: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

It’s makeup time.

Of course, you need products, right? You can’t put on makeup with your mind.

Here’s everything I used to get this look:

Cupcake Cult Eye Primer

MAC Eye Shadow in Post Haste

Luzier Eye Shadow in Burgundy Ice

Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet

N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black

Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black

Claire’s Lip Gloss

That’s it! And away we go.

First, we’re going to use Post Haste, a MAC Eye Shadow. This is a darkish, slightly muted pink. I put this on the outside corner (where it’s darkest) and into the crease.

Then I added the Luzier Eye Shadow, Burgundy Ice. This is a shimmery mixture of pink and yellow. Blend this over the entire lid and just above the crease.

Since I felt that it still didn’t have enough pink, I used a bright ‘hot pink’ from my Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet. I used just a little bit over the first pink color, and onto more of the lid as well. See the picture!

Then, I used a very light beige, also from the Elite pallet. This time, I used it on the inside corner of the eye (blending out about one centimeter). Then I used it under the arch of the brow to create a highlight.

That’s all for eye shadow in this makeup tutorial. Super quick.

For eyeliner I used N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner because I wanted a look that stood out and that was a bit retro. I used this just on the top lid.

And yes, I screwed it up a bit. Liquid eyeliner is hard!

I used Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black on the top and bottom lashes. Man, it sure does make them look long!

Last, but not least, lips. I didn’t want to go too overboard today, so I just added some shimmery pink lip gloss from Claire’s.

Done! Check out the ending pictures:

Nice, huh? I loved doing the Geranium makeup tutorial. Pinks seem to look good on me. And, news flash, pinks look good on a lot of people.

What did you think? Not too bad, huh?

I chose to do a fire related tutorial today. Mostly because I was wearing a red halter dress at the time. I wanted to match!

This look is called Fire Season. I live in a state that has a yearly fire season (no, not California. Montana). In fact, just about a week ago, or most important mountain was on fire. While it looked neat at night, it’s serious business.

Anyway, the classic fire colors are red, orange, yellow and white. Of course, the fire is hottest when it’s white. Right?

Using these three colors, I created the Fire Season makeup tutorial, which is so scorching hot!

Read on, ladies.

First thing’s first, you’ll start completely nude. In the face anyway.

Look at my nakedness.

Then, you need to get your face ready so that the makeup blends well. I only used powder. It is summer after all. Learn more here: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Now, get your materials.

Here’s all the makeup that I used. You can use something else if it looks similarly.

Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet

MAC Eye Shadow in Orange

MAC Eye Shadow in Chrome Yellow

Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Carbon Black

Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black

Cover Girl WetSlicks Fruit Spritzers Lip Gloss in Raspberry Splash

Now, it’s time to get eye shadow’d. The first color is red. I used a darker red color from my Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet.

Apply this to the outside corner and up to the crease as shown in the picture above.

Next is orange. I used MAC Eye Shadow for this color. Apply it from lash line to crease, blending it into the red color. Don’t go much farther than halfway across your lid.

For easy blending, you should use a medium eye shadow brush, like I did.

Here’s another MAC Eye Shadow in yellow. Blend this in with the orange and start it about one centimeter from the inside corner of your eye. Don’t put the yellow in the corner. There’s still one more color left.

The final eye shadow color is from the Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet again. This time, use a very light, almost-white beige color.

Apply this to the inside corner of the eye, blending it into the yellow. Also put this under your brow, blending it into the crease a bit. This will soften up the overall look.

We’re not done, though. Now we need to use the eye shadow on the lower lid. Using a thin, angled eye shadow brush with soft, stiff bristles, fill in the lower lid.

Start at the outside corner with orange and go underneath the lash line almost all the way to the inside corner. Then take yellow and go over the orange starting in the middle of the lower lid and work till almost the inside corner. Next, take the light beige and blend it on the lower lid starting at the inside corner and working into some of the yellow.

You can see the outcome in the picture above.

After shadow, we need liner. Today, I am only lining the lower lid on the inside of the lash line. I used Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Carbon Black.

Then, mascara. I used the new Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara in Glam Black. You should use the mascara on both the top and bottom lashes.

Lips! I wanted it to be subtle, since the eyes are so bright. I used Cover Girl WetSlicks Fruit Spritzers Lip Gloss in Raspberry Splash.

Done! Here’s the after pictures:

I ended up really liking the Fire Season look. I’ve just started doing looks with white/beige in the inside corner (like last week’s Plum Smoke) and I’m loving the way it looks on me.

And of course, it really went well with that red halter dress I was wearing, too!

What do you think of the Fire Season makeup tutorial?

Well, I always live up to a promise.

Today I’ll be using MAC eye shadow and lip gloss (along with some other brands) to get a great summer look. I call this Tropical Storm because it uses tropical colors (blue, green, yellow.) It’s also stormy and smoky.

This is a pretty heavy look, using a lot of color. Because of this, you may want to limit it to special occasions. For instance, it would look nice at some club after a long day at the beach.

Although, if you’re like me, you may want to wear it any ol’ time. I really do like wearing a lot of makeup.

Get ready for the Tropical Storm makeup tutorial!

First, you must have an unmadeup face. After all, it’s going to look weird if you add on this look over your regular daily makeup.

Oh how I love to not wear makeup. (I don’t really mean that.)

Before you start on this tutorial, and after you’ve cleaned your face, you’ll want to put on any concealer, foundation or powder. Since it’s summer (in the Northern Hemisphere anyway), you may want to forego any heavy foundation. To learn more, read this: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Then, you will need to gather your supplies.

As usual, you are more than welcome to substitute wherever you can. You don’t need to use the products that I use. You can usually get about the same look with something similar in a different brand.

Here’s what I used:

MAC Eye Shadow in Submarine

MAC Eye Shadow in Newly Minted

MAC Eye Shadow in Chrome Yellow

Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Black

Loreal FeatherLash Water-Resistant Mascara in Black

MAC Lustreglass in Ornamental

It may look like a lot, but it’s not, I swear. Just like I promised, this makeup tutorial uses a lot of MAC.

The very first step uses the Submarine eye shadow. This is a bright blue frost color. Using a medium eye shadow brush, from the outer corner of your eye up and across your crease. It should be darkest and most saturated at the outside corner as it fades inward. Check out the picture to get a good idea of what I’m talking about.

Next, grab the Newly Minted eye shadow. This is a bright, matte green. Sweep this over about 3/4 of your lid from the outside corner working inward. Blend this in with the Submarine blue so that they join together seamlessly.

You should also do a strip of this Newly Minted green color on your lower lid as well. This is going to look sort of like an eye liner. I used a stiff natural bristle brush with an angled head. You can see it in the equipment picture (it’s the brush with the white handle.) Make sure you use a good brush or you may make the line too thick.

Now it’s on to Chrome Yellow, which is matte. Starting at the inside corner, work this over the lid up to the crease. Blend it in a bit with the green and blue. You may need to apply the yellow several times for it to look right.

Like you did with the Newly Minted green, line the bottom lid, underneath the lashes with the Chrome Yellow eye shadow. Instead of going across the entire bottom lid, start at the inside corner and go across to only about halfway.

For eyeliner, I used Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Black. I lined just the bottom lid, on the inside of the lash line only. No lining the top lid today. This look is already harsh enough without it.

And, of course, mascara. I used Loreal FeatherLash Water-Resistant Mascara in Black on the top and bottom lashes. Beautiful, right?

For the lips, I used MAC Lustreglass in Ornamental. This is a super shiny and shimmery lip gloss that’s tinted a light brown color. Very cute. Smells kind of like chocolate, too!

Well, that’s it. That wasn’t too hard. And for only having these MAC eye shadows for about six days, I think I did a good job.

Here’s the after pictures:

See how the blue sort of adds a smoky eyes look to this? I love me some green and yellow, too.

So ends the Tropical Storm makeup tutorial. I hope you liked it!

Today, I’ll be teaching you how to get a beautiful rusty colored makeup look on your eyes, as well as a soft rust color on your lips. This look is going to be a bit more subtle than what you are expecting, I’m sure.

Where you wear this look depends on how comfortable you are with makeup on. I could wear this anywhere, including work and on a date. Those who aren’t used to a lot of makeup may want to limit this look only for special occasions.

So, get ready for the Soft Rust makeup tutorial.

First, as always, we start with a bare, naked face. Sounds dirty, doesn’t it?

Here I am! No makeup – so sad.

Since foundation, powder and the like are very dependent on your own preferences, and really repetitive, I won’t detail that here. You can learn a bit more about the subject, though: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

After that, you need to gather your supplies.

You can see what I used in the picture above. If you have something else that gives you a similar look, feel free to use that instead.

Here’s what I used, in order:

Cupcake Cult Eye Primer

Luzier Eye Shadow

e.l.f. Brightening Eye Liner in Black

Loreal FeatherLash Water-Resistant Mascara in Black

Mary Kay MK Signature NouriShine Lip Gloss in Sweet Raisin

That’s all you need. The first step is primer.

I use Cupcake Cult Eye Primer to get a smooth and vibrant look. If I would have skipped this step, the overall look of this eye makeup would look much softer in the end. You may want to keep that in mind.

These are the eye shadows I used, Luzier Eye Shadow. I used them in the order based on the numbers in the picture. I used:

Penny

Burgundy Ice

Honey

You’ll do fine if you use colors that are similar, since these will be hard to find.

With the first color, Penny, sweep it along the crease of your lid, starting at the outer corner of your eye and working it into an arch. This is a rusty, shimmer color. The color should be densest and darkest on the outside of this arch.

I use a medium shadow brush (as you can see in my equipment picture) as opposed to a sponge tipped applicator, as it’s just better.

Next you’ll use the second color, Burgundy Ice. This is a mixture of yellow and burgundy shadows. Sweep this on the main part of your lid and into the crease, blending it with the first color. You should also put it just above your crease as well. You can already see the first color mellowing out.

You will then use the third color, Honey on the rest of the lid. Blend this into the inside corner of your lid. You should also blend it on your brow bone just under your eyebrow for a little highlight.

That’s it for eye shadow! It was just that easy. Next, it’s eyeliner.

Normally, I will line the entire top lid. Not today. Instead, for this makeup look, you should start at the outer corner and draw a line only to about halfway across your upper lid. The line will be thick at the corner and thinner as you draw inward. Don’t line the bottom lid. I used e.l.f. Brightening Eye Liner in Black.

Ahh, mascara, one of the most important parts of any look. Today, I used Loreal FeatherLash Water-Resistant Mascara in Black on both the top and bottom lashes. Be careful not to get it all over your eyelids and face.

Finally, the lips. I chose a lip gloss, Mary Kay MK Signature NouriShine Lip Gloss in Sweet Raisin, that has the same sort of rusty color as the makeup on my eyes. It’s a tinted gloss so I completely forewent the lipstick.

And…we’re done! Time for the after shots:

Clicking on any of the pictures in this makeup tutorial will give you a bigger view.

I ended up really liking this look, and I plan to wear it often. Soft Rust goes well with a lot of clothing, since it tends to be pretty neutral.

Next week, I’ll have a makeup tutorial using MAC Cosmetics, since my shipment should be coming sometime today.

Until next time!

What did you think? Would you be comfortable wearing Soft Rust to work, or is it too much?

Some of the looks I teach you guys are so out there, like the Rainbow Eyes tutorial, that you can’t wear them in most situations. To remedy that, I’m teaching you a look today that can be worn pretty much anywhere:

To work.

To school.

On a date.

To a family gathering.

For a hike in the woods.

During the day.

At night.

Even to a night club.

I call this look Simple and Clean because it has a freshness about it. You’ll look amazing while not having that much makeup on. At least it will seem that way anyway.

I actually got some of the idea for this look from the steps in the Vintage Pinup Girl Video, although I changed some things around.

Get ready, because we’re about to learn the Simple and Clean makeup tutorial.

You’ll be starting with a naked face:

Oh how unhappy I am without makeup on.

Before you do anything else, you’ll need to get your face ready for all of this. Since we’re going light and breezy today, you’ll want to avoid any heavy foundations and powders. I only used some translucent powder for this one. Less is more!

You can learn more about this step here: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Now you can start the look. Here’s everything you’ll need:

As always, you can find similar products that can do just as good of a job, so if you don’t have one of these exact items, don’t worry. You should be able to get the same look with something else that looks similarly. Here’s what I used:

Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet

Luzier Eye Shadow in Burgundy Ice

Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Black

Mary Kay MK Signature® Waterproof Mascara in Black

Loreal Bare Naturale All Over Mineral Glow

Cover Girl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lip Gloss in Raspberry Splash

Once you’ve got everything ready, it’s time to start the makeup tutorial.

You’ll be using three different colors of eye shadow today. I’ll be using them in the order seen in the picture. The first, second and fourth colors are from the Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet. The third is Luzier Eye Shadow in Burgundy Ice.

Take the first color, a shimmery medium pink, and blend it into your crease and brow bone. When you’re eyes are open, you should see this color poking out above your crease. The color should be in an arched shape.

The second color you’ll use is a very muted brown. It should only be a little bit darker than you’re natural skin color. Blend into your crease only. By putting it in the crease, you’ll also be blending it with the first pink color a bit.

The third color is by Luzier and is a mixture of pink and gold shimmer eye shadow. Spread this over your lid. This won’t look too much different than your regular skin, which is what we want.

The final color is strictly for highlights. You should choose an almost-white cream color. Either matte or shimmer is good. I used a matte color. Put this just below the arch of your eyebrow, above the pink line. Also put this in the inside corner of your eye.

Super Makeup Trick: Highlighting like this makes your eyes look brighter, larger, and more awake.

After all that super subtle eye shadow, it’s time for some eyeliner. Normally, people put liner on their top lid and only sometimes on the bottom. For this look, you’re going to put it only on the bottom, on the inside of the lid. I used Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in Black.

Super Makeup Trick: Lining just the lower lid makes your eyes look bigger and interesting without looking like you have a lot of makeup on. You’ll also notice that the irises of your eye (the colored part) will be more pronounced and noticeable.

Then, it’s time for mascara:

The mascara part of the Simple and Clean look is pretty straight forward. You should mascara both the top and bottom lashes. Be careful not to get mascara on your top lid. I have a hard time with that myself. I used Mary Kay MK Signature® Waterproof Mascara in Black.

I don’t always use blush, but I used it today:

Make sure you choose the right blush for this. You’ll want it to look as realistic as possible. I used Loreal Bare Naturale All Over Mineral Glow, as it’s my favorite. As you can see in the picture above, I didn’t just put it on the apples of my cheeks. Instead, I started at the apples and worked in small circles up around the temple and onto a bit of the forehead, following the line that I illustrated.

For the lips, I wanted to add very little color. We are being Simple and Clean, you know. So I used Cover Girl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lip Gloss in Raspberry Splash to add a bit of shine and shimmer with barely any color. That’s it!

We’re done. That was easy, wasn’t it? Now for the after photos:

It’s a pretty simple look. You’ll be wearing very little makeup, yet will be obviously much prettier than you were before (unless you’re one of those people who look amazing without makeup.) Since it’s so simple, and clean, you can wear it just about anywhere.

What did you think of the Simple and Clean look? Would you wear this?

Makeup tutorial using green eye shadow and yellow eye shadow, giving a lemon lime look. Pictures galore!

Mmm, I just love lemon lime. Whether it’s a food or drink, it nearly always tastes good. What a great flavor combination! Since it can be so good for flavors, why not for makeup, too? Sure, we won’t be tasting this look, but it can still look as fresh and bright as lemon lime.

I was actually inspired to do this look today because I’m wearing a green shirt. You’ll see that in the end, the green on my eyes doesn’t really match the green on my shirt.

Oops! Oh well, you can’t always help what the end result is once you use your inspiration. Right?

Get ready, because we are so about to learn the Lemon Lime Look.

Follow these steps and you should come out with a similar makeup look.

First thing’s first. We always, always, start with a naked, pre-makeup face:

I don’t look very happy. I think it’s because I prefer to be wearing makeup. Don’t worry, past Trisha. You’ll have makeup on soon enough.

Before anything else, you need to get your face ready. I used translucent powder. No foundation for me today. If you want to learn more about this step, check out a previous post: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

Then, it’s time to gather all of your tools:

This is what I used today. You can get away with using other, similar makeup just as long as you choose colors that go along with what I use.

Here’s a list of all the beauty products used in this makeup tutorial:

Cupcake Cult Eye Primer

Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet

N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black

Mary Kay MK Signature Waterproof Mascara in Black

Almay Hydracolor Lipstick in #545 Pink Pearl

Cover Girl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers in Lemon Splash

That’s all! On to the first step:

First, I used eye primer on my lid. I used Cupcake Cult Eye Primer over my entire lid, as well as my lower lid just under the lash line. Basically, you should put this anywhere that you plan on putting eye shadow.

I used this because it gives more vibrant colors, sort of a harsh look. Since this is all about Lemon Lime, it was important to make this look bright.

Then, onto the shadow:

Here’s all of the colors I used from the Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet. I’ve numbered them based on the general order that I use them in this makeup tutorial. Since the colors don’t actually have a name, I’ll refer to them by number.

I’ve used Color #1 at the outer corner of my eye. This is a dark, lime green. It should resemble the kind of green you see on St. Patrick’s Day and on shamrocks.

Next, it’s Color #2. This is even more lime in color, and a bit lighter than the first. Blend this into the first color and move it out to cover around 1/3 of the lid, as shown. If you’re having trouble blending, make sure that you’re using a medium shadow brush, instead of a sponge applicator. I promise it works better.

Here’s the third color, Color #3. This is sort of a yellow/green, of course in the lime family of colors. Blend this in with everything you’ve done, even into the first color. This will soften everything up so that it doesn’t look so harsh. Make sure to bring this color across about 1/2 of your eyelid.

Now we start getting into the yellow, Color #4. This is a bright yellow that can really pop. As you can see, I not only blended this in with the last color, but I also put it along the top of everything, just below the eyebrows. This softens the lines some more.

Then I added a paler yellow, Color #5, to the inside corner of my eye and out into the previous color.

Before I move on to the next color, we’re going to go back in time a little (mostly because I forgot.) Grab the third color, Color #3, and bring it just under your lash line on your bottom lid. You should sweep this from the outside corner and in about halfway.

Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. Here, I added Color #6, an almost white color, to just below my eyebrows, on the brow bone. This adds highlight to the look, making it look brighter.

Super Makeup Trick: Alarmed by the overwhelming brightness of the look? You can soften up what you just did by swirling a clean round brush over your lid. This will wipe away excess shadow and it won’t be so bright and noticeable.

We’re done with the shadow. Now it’s all about the finishing touches.

I used liquid eyeliner for this look, bringing it from the outer corner of my eye, across and just before the inside corner of my eye. I used N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black. If you want to learn more about using liquid eyeliner: How to Use Liquid Eyeliner.

And here we have some mascara. I used it on both the top and bottom lashes. Mary Kay MK Signature Waterproof Mascara in Black was my mascara of choice.

Now, onto the lips:

Since my eyes are so bright, I didn’t want to draw too much attention to my lips or that would just be too much. Instead, I’m using a subtle color effect, and also bring the Lemon Lime theme to this area of the face as well.

First, I used Almay Hydracolor Lipstick in #545 Pink Pearl. This is a soft pink, opalescent color. Then, I used Cover Girl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers in Lemon Splash. After some blotting and reapplying, I got a good mixture of both.

We’re done. After all that, I ended up with a pretty great Lemon Lime Look. Check it out:

See? It doesn’t really match my shirt in the end. Oh well! Now that I have this look in my aresenal, I can use it again when I’m actually wearing something that would go along with it.

What did you think of the Lemon Lime Look?

A makeup tutorial using a rainbow of eye shadow colors. Also uses blue eyeliner and yellow eyeliner.

I don’t always like to play it safe. In fact, I like to go crazy sometimes. Many people would avoid the look I’m going to teach you today, but whatever. I think it’s cute!

I think about the fact that I have nearly every color in the rainbow when it comes to eye shadow, so why not have a look that is…well…a rainbow?

So, that’s exactly what I’m doing. Be prepared for Rainbow Eyes! This is the most colorful makeup look I’ve ever done. And you’ll get to see how I did it here.

Buckle up, because this is going to be fun.

Before you do anything else, you should start with a completely empty, naked face, as shown:

Beautiful, right? So makeupless and pure. Let’s see how I clean up, shall we?

Before you break out the eye shadow, it’s time to get your face ready. This often involves foundation, powder and the like. If you want a good idea of the process, you can read up on it in a previous post: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

After that, you should gather up your supplies for the Rainbow Eyes makeup tutorial.

This is all that I used, numbered for your convenience. If you don’t have the exact product that I do, you should be able to achieve this look with something similar.

Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet

Revlon Diamond Lust in Champagne Buzz

Jordana Easyliner for Eyes Retractable Pencil in Bliss

Cover Girl CG Eyeslicks in Glistening Gold

Mary Kay MK Signature Waterproof Mascara in Black

L’Oreal HiP Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss in Dreamer

Now that you have all of that settled, you should start with your eye shadow. Since I’m using such a huge pallet, I took pictures of each color and made an easy to understand chart:

These shadows are all from the Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet. I used the classic Roy G Biv rainbow colors technique here, minus a step (Indigo). Except I’m doing it backward. You’ll understand in the next step. These are the colors in order:

Violet

Blue

Green

Yellow

Orange

Red

So, I started with violet at the outer corner of my eye. Here’s the rainbow progression:

It makes so much sense when you see it all in line like that. As you can see, I started at the outer corner and worked my way in. When you’re applying the eye shadow, make sure that you’re blending it in with the previous color as well, although not too much as we want the color progression to be obvious.

I used an eye shadow brush, like always.

Although I have the full rainbow now, I’m not done with eye shadow, I have one more step.

I used Revlon Diamond Lust in Champagne Buzz, a bright, shimmery shadow, and covered my whole lid. This softens the look. This way, I don’t look like I just stepped out of a nightclub. It is the middle of the day after all.

Now that you’re done with shadow, it’s on to eyeliner.

The first eyeliner I’m using is a bright blue eyeliner, Jordana Easyliner for Eyes Retractable Pencil in Bliss. This was really inexpensive at the drugstore. The blue is supposed to signify the sky surrounding a rainbow, but it really is just used because it’s pretty.

But we’re not done.

I then used a fat, yellow liner on the bottom lid. I used Cover Girl CG Eyeslicks in Glistening Gold both above and below the lower lashes. It really brightens up the eye and the whole look in general.

No black eyeliner today!

For a finishing touch to the eyes, mascara is necessary. I used Mary Kay MK Signature Waterproof Mascara in Black on both the top and bottom lashes.

(For some reason I can never get the color in my lips pictures to match the eyes. Grrr.)

I got some new lip gloss yesterday that I had to try. So, today I used L’Oreal HiP Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss in Dreamer on my lips. It’s pretty nice. Perhaps I’ll do a review soon.

We’re done! Rainbows aplenty with this makeup tutorial. Check out the after photos:

Pretty right? I showed my mom and she said that while I was masterful in my execution (I’m paraphrasing here) she would never wear it. I guess having rainbow makeup isn’t for everyone. It is for me, though.

How do you like Rainbow Eyes? Is it too bold for you, or just right? Now bold enough?

Up until now, I’ve been doing some bold looks for the Tutorial Tuesdays. Most people aren’t going to wear this kind of makeup on a regular basis (unless you’re me.) Instead, you may want something a bit more subtle. Something you can wear to work.

Hence, Umber Eyes.

This is an eye makeup tutorial using a brown shadow pallet. Brown makeup can go with a lot of things and blends in well with most people’s coloring.

While it may not be suitable for a night of hardcore partying, it’s still good for most other everyday uses.

So commences Umber Eyes!

First, you need to have a totally flat, naked face:

Don’t I look like a sad little kitten? I’m so much happier with makeup on. And we all know that the ‘before’ picture has to have a sad, terrible face. It makes the ‘after’ look so much better.

The next step, as always, is all about your face. You’ll likely need foundation and powder and such. Instead of explaining that here, you can check it out a previous post I made that explains all about it: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup.

After that, it’s all about the makeup. This is what I used:

You can click to have a closer look. These are the products that I used. You can find something equivalent if you don’t have what I have.

Prestige CL-42A: Rosewood

Sephora Gloss Repulpant

There you have it! You’ll see more about all of these products as we move down the line.

We’ll be using these colors in the Cover Girl Eye Enhancers compact. The numbers will help you know what colors I’m using. They’ll go in order.

First, color number one:

This is a dark chocolate brown eye shadow, matte. I only used a little bit of this, as you can see. To match my look, sweep the shadow around the outer corner of your eye. Bring it a third of the way into both your upper and lower eyelid. Then, sweep it out toward the eyebrow. It may look gaudy, but it’ll look better as you blend the other colors.

Next is the number two color, a shimmy bronze. Blend this into the first color, and then bring it into your crease in an arch shape. You don’t have to be too careful of what it looks like since it will all blend together in the end.

And now, for the final color:

Here’s where you use the shimmery, gold. Fill in the blank spot on your eyelid. Also sweep the color on the rest of the lid so that it blends with the other colors. Keep blending until there are now noticeable separation lines between the colors.

It should look like this when the eyes are closed:

See? The second, bronze color no longer looks like some terrible gaudy mess. That’s the power of blending, folks!

Now for the eyeliner. As you can see, I used brown (Milani Easyliner Retractable Pencil in Brazilian Brown). That’s so unlike me! Normally, I’m a black liner junky. Brown eyeliner is good when you want a subtle, natural-ish look. Apply it only to the top lid.

Finally, the mascara. Although I could forgo black eyeliner, I still used black mascara. I can’t help myself! To keep up with the natural, low-maintenance look, apply your mascara to the upper lashes only. Mary Kay MK Signature Waterproof Mascara, here I come.

Almost done!

I decided to use a lip stick that is very close to my natural shade (Prestige CL-42A: Rosewood). Instead of changing the color of my lips, it makes the shade more refined and even. Over that, I added Sephora Gloss Repulpant. This is a lip gloss that has that extra tingly bite. Although it is slightly tinted brown and has a bit of sparkle, all it really does is adds a bit of shine. Just what I wanted!

Ta-da! All done! Have a look at the after shots:

Pretty, no? This seems more than respectful and delicate for an office job. You can wear a good amount of makeup without looking like a harlot. I promise. This brown eye makeup tutorial, affectionately called Umber Eyes, shows what we can really do with the brown family of colors.

Thinking of trying this look? Let me know! I want to see pictures!

Welcome to the first post in the Tutorial Tuesday series. Each week I’ll be showing you a new makeup technique – with pictures!

This makeup tutorial, for Sunrise Eyes, will show step by step what you need to do to achieve the look. You’ll understand why I call it Sunrise Eyes when you see the finished product. Click on the pictures to view a bigger view. For now, let’s get started!

First, you’ll need to start with a clean, empty face:

Yikes! No makeup! Don’t worry. This will get remedied.

Next, you’ll need to clean up and use foundation. You can read my how to guide for this here: Priming the Canvas: Getting Your Face Ready for Makeup. There, you’ll find everything you need to get your face ready for makeup. Don’t forget this step! If you do, your makeup won’t look so great in the end.

Here’s everything that I used to get this look:

I’ll mention each of these products as we go along.

The first real step toward getting the Sunrise Eyes look is to do the eyeshadow. Many people start with eyeliner. That’s not the case with this look. Sunrise Eyes are dramatic, so eyeliner goes on afterward.

Choose a reddish pink color to start out with. I used a large eyeshadow palette for my colors today. It’s by Elite Pro Cosmetics and I highly recommend it. There are 88 shades, so I can always match any outfit!

Now you will want to apply it to your lid:

As you can see, I am applying it from the outer corner, fanning out beyond the eye, to about one quarter of the way in. Blend it up to just above your crease. Make sure that the color is heavily saturated. It may look weird now, but with blending it will look amazing in the end.

Now for the second color:

Now I’m using an orange color. It isn’t any lighter or darker than the red, but it does have a bit of a sparkle.

Oops! It got a bit blurry. Even so, you can see what I did here. Blend the orange from the center of your eye out toward the red shadow you first applied. Blend, blend, blend! I use a brush instead of a different shadow applicator. This helps me blend a lot better than I would otherwise. I highly recommend using a brush. You can see the one I used in the equipment picture above.

Put this orange eyeshadow on your bottom lid as well. Do just a thin line from the outer corner to about a third of the way inside.

Now, for the final color:

Next I use a greenish yellow color. While the color is green by itself, it changes when it’s blended with the first two colors.

See? It doesn’t look so green now. Blend this starting at the inside corner of your eye. Work the shadow across the top of your lid and over the other two colors. Blend this until there is a seamless transition from red to orange to greenish yellow. You may need to coat your brush with the greenish yellow shadow several times in order to get this effect.

Now you’re done with the shadow! All that’s left is to complete the look. Now onto eyeliner:

Start at the outer corner and and sweep it down to the inside corner. Try to get as close to the lashes as possible. Also, make the line thicker on the outside, getting progressively thinner as you move in. I used Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner in black.

Here you can see that I also swept the eyeliner on the bottom lid as well. I put it on the inside of the lid for a more dramatic effect.

Now I need some mascara:

Apply the mascara to both the bottom and top lids, from root to tip. Remember that we’re being dramatic! I used Mary Kay MK Signature Waterproof Mascara in black.

And here’s the finished eye look:

See! Very beautiful, just like a sunrise. But you’re not done yet. Now for the finishing touches:

Since the eyes are very dramatic for this makeup technique, you’ll want your lips to be subtle. That’s the general rule. If you have a lot of makeup on your eyes, then you shouldn’t have a lot on your lips, and vice versa. I used a light pink shimmery lip gloss from Claire’s. Oh yeah, and the lip ring is optional.

Now for some blush:

While you can use any type of blush, I used a mineral powder version today. I swept it from the apple of the cheeks up around my temple and up onto the side of my forehead. I used L’Oreal Bare Naturale All Over Mineral Glow.

Now we’re done! Let’s have a look at the results of our Sunrise Eyes makeup tutorial:

You just know that I had to throw in a goofy picture!
