Last week, we talked about wearing the color red and how that can affect how others see you.  Color effects our emotions, whether we know it or not.

Green is going to have a lot different reaction than what you would get from red.  So, before you put on that green eye shadow or nail polish, you should learn more about the emotions associated with it.

If you live in the United States, you are no doubt celebrating Independence Day.  Even if you aren’t in the states, maybe you’re celebrating something else.

So, have fun with this great holiday!

I hope you’re off eating great food (barbecue!) and having fun with friends and family.  Oh, and don’t forget to watch a whole mess of fireworks.

Have fun and be cute for me!

Makeup Review: Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara

July 4th, 2008 by Trisha

colossal There has been so much buzz about the new Maybelline mascara, Colossal Volum’ Express, that it’s really hard to ignore.  (It’s so new, in fact, that they don’t even have it on their official website.)  Why are people talking about it?  What makes it special?  The packaging?  The product?

I decided to get down to the nitty gritty, and I bought it.

You may recall a previous mascara review I did for Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume Mascara and how I didn’t really like it.  Don’t worry, I’m not letting that alter my perspective of this new product.  I’m not that biased.

I bought the Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara, in Glam Black at Walgreens.  All the tags said it cost $6.99, which I imagine is the regular retail price.  After I went through the line and paid for everything, the bill seemed a little low.  Apparently the mascara rang up at $4.99.  Hmmm…a magical secret deal!  The best kind.

Anyway, let’s get down to business.

As we discussed a few days ago, red makeup (whether it’s lipstick, eye shadow, or polish) represents certain things, such as fire, danger, love and sex.  Above anything else though, red = bravery!

If you’re thinking about red nail polish and you’re not sure how to pull it off, here are some super cute ideas that will surely beat those fears.

Try one, try all, or use these as inspiration and make up your own.  Whatever you do, get brave!  Wear red nail polish!

Trisha commands you.  :)

Tutorial Tuesday: Tropical Storm Makeup Tutorial

July 1st, 2008 by Trisha

Less than a week ago, I got my first ever MAC makeup stash.  At the time, I promised that my next makeup tutorial would use the MAC Cosmetics I got.

Well, I always live up to a promise.

Today I’ll be using MAC eye shadow and lip gloss (along with some other brands) to get a great summer look.  I call this Tropical Storm because it uses tropical colors (blue, green, yellow.)  It’s also stormy and smoky.

This is a pretty heavy look, using a lot of color.  Because of this, you may want to limit it to special occasions.  For instance, it would look nice at some club after a long day at the beach.

Although, if you’re like me, you may want to wear it any ol’ time.  I really do like wearing a lot of makeup.

Get ready for the Tropical Storm makeup tutorial!

Dare to Wear: Red Lipstick, Eye Shadow, Nail Polish

Before you throw on that perfect shade of red lipstick, you may want to think about how you’ll be perceived.

Although you may not have consciously realized, color has a lot to do with how we feel.  When people see you wearing that red lipstick, red eye shadow, or even red nails, they will feel differently toward you.  They will get an emotional reaction based on that color.  Most of the time, they don’t even realize it.

I finally got my first MAC Cosmetics stash.  First stash.  I did have one item from MAC, but that doesn’t really count as a stash, now does it?

After purchasing a wealth of products during last week’s MAC sale, I finally got my makeup yesterday.  I waited all day long and UPS finally showed up at 7PMThat’s pretty late!

But I finally got it and am oh-so-excited.  I thought I would take a picture for everyone and tell you what I got.  Here it is:

Soft Rust? Is that even possible?  Well, yes, when it’s on your eyes.

Today, I’ll be teaching you how to get a beautiful rusty colored makeup look on your eyes, as well as a soft rust color on your lips.  This look is going to be a bit more subtle than what you are expecting, I’m sure.

Where you wear this look depends on how comfortable you are with makeup on.  I could wear this anywhere, including work and on a date.  Those who aren’t used to a lot of makeup may want to limit this look only for special occasions.

So, get ready for the Soft Rust makeup tutorial.
