Makeup Review: Loreal Colour Riche Star Secrets Lipcolour

September 5th, 2008 by Trisha

It seems that all of Loreal Paris’ lipsticks are called “Colour Riche”.  This is no exception, although it does have a special distinction.

Normally, beauty companies create a lipstick color, name it something clever, and sell it to consumers.  Loreal did something different.

The Loreal Colour Riche Star Secrets Lipcolour series has colors corresponding to celebrities.   Apparently, they had these celebrities come in, like Eva Longoria Parker and Andie MacDowell, and created a color specifically for them.  Then they’re selling it to us.

I purchased Loreal Colour Riche Star Secrets Lipcolour in Penelope’s Red for $8.99 in a drug store.  That’s Penelope Cruz’s shade of red.

But how did it stand up to testing?

Makeup Review: e.l.f. Brightening Eye Color Eye Shadow Quad

July 11th, 2008 by Trisha

elfshadow I normally don’t like to recommend things that I haven’t tried, especially if they seem questionable.  I came across a makeup website selling eye shadow for a dollar.  At first I was thrilled, and then I read some mixed reviews.

Then I actually found the eye shadow in a store (Big Lots) and bought it.  And now, of course, I will review it.

The eye shadow? e.l.f. Brightening Eye Color eye shadow quad in Nouveau Neutrals.  e.l.f. stands for “Eyes Lips Face”, which is usually what we’re making up with cosmetics.

I got this quad at Big Lots at a discounted price as part of a set (with eyeliner that I’ll review next week) so I got it cheaper than normal.  But you can find it on their website for $1.

Now, it’s time to get down to the real deets:

Makeup Review: Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara

July 4th, 2008 by Trisha

colossal There has been so much buzz about the new Maybelline mascara, Colossal Volum’ Express, that it’s really hard to ignore.  (It’s so new, in fact, that they don’t even have it on their official website.)  Why are people talking about it?  What makes it special?  The packaging?  The product?

I decided to get down to the nitty gritty, and I bought it.

You may recall a previous mascara review I did for Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume Mascara and how I didn’t really like it.  Don’t worry, I’m not letting that alter my perspective of this new product.  I’m not that biased.

I bought the Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara, in Glam Black at Walgreens.  All the tags said it cost $6.99, which I imagine is the regular retail price.  After I went through the line and paid for everything, the bill seemed a little low.  Apparently the mascara rang up at $4.99.  Hmmm…a magical secret deal!  The best kind.

Anyway, let’s get down to business.

Makeup Review: N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner

Lately, I’ve been focusing a lot of my attention on liquid eyeliner. I’ve written posts about it and I’ve done some makeup looks featuring this kind of thing as well.

Since my favorite brand of liquid eyeliner (by Loreal) was all out, I had to use one of my backup liners: N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black. I wasn’t expecting it to be very good.

Want to know how it fared? Read on for the makeup review of the N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner.

Makeup Review: Cover Girl Eye Enhancers Tropical Fusion

June 6th, 2008 by Trisha

Jumping on the bright makeup bandwagon, Cover Girl has come out with a new eye shadow compact called Tropical Fusion. In fact, this is so new that I can’t even find it on the Cover Girl website.

This eye shadow compact consists of bright blue, green, orange and yellow/green eye shadow.

Normally, Cover Girl plays it safe with their choice in colors. Today, we’ll see if it was worth it for them to go outside of the box.

I found this compact at CVS Pharmacy on sale, but you can usually find it in most drug stores around the $5 or $6 mark.

Here’s what I thought of the Cover Girl Eye Enhancers Tropical Fusion compact:

Makeup Review: Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume Mascara

The newest trend in mascara is the rubber/plastic wand. You see commercials for these all over TV, and even in full page ads in fashion magazines. It’s very brave of these companies to completely change the mascara applicator, especially when so many of us rely on what we already know.

So do these mascara applicators work? I can’t speak for all of them, but I do have an opinion on the one offered by Maybelline.

I tried the Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume Mascara in Very Black. You can find this in drug stores, department stores, and online. I picked it up for $7.99. How does it stack up?

Makeup Review: Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet

May 11th, 2008 by Trisha

Today, I’m reviewing my favorite piece of makeup in my whole collection. You would expect, since it’s my favorite, that I’m going to give it an A+. Well, read on to see if you’re right.

I got the Elite Pro Cosmetics 88 Eye Shadow Pallet about a year ago. I was feeling particularly hard up for some eye shadow, so I did a search on eBay and found this pallet. 88 eye shadow colors! Needless to say, I bought the crap out of it. But is it really all it’s cracked up to be?

I bought this for $39.99 on eBay.

Pros: The biggest pro is the vast amount of colors you can work with. I can seriously match any outfit now. I also like how bright the colors are. They give you two different kinds of shadow: matte and shimmer. These colors blend really well.

They also last a really long time. As I mentioned above, I’ve had this pallet for about one year. I use it almost every day. Although each shadow is small compared to what you would get with other brands and pallets, none of them have run out. It comes with a mirror, if you ever want to take it out for a spin.

Makeup Review: Cover Girl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lip Gloss

May 2nd, 2008 by Trisha

WetslicksIf you’ve been watching America’s Next Top Model recently, you may have heard Cover Girl’s Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers lip gloss mentioned. Saleisha (winner of cycle 9) uses it when she goes out on go-sees! But is it actually good? I picked up the lip gloss and gave it the good ‘once over.’

The big selling point for Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers is the fruit smells. Each gloss has a different one. I purchased Lemon Splash and Raspberry Splash. They came in a two pack for $5.99 at Walgreens.

Pros: Lately, all the complaints I hear about lip glosses talk about stickiness. I know first hand about this, although I don’t always mind if they are. Don’t worry about Wetslicks. They aren’t sticky in the slightest. Although they give a super shiny sheen to your lips, you don’t have to worry about your hair getting stuck to them. The smell of these lip glosses are also amazing. Lemon Splash smells like lemon drops while the Raspberry Splash smells like watermelon bubble gum (for some reason). This lip gloss also lasts a really long time. I went around four hours without having to reapply. Read the rest of this entry »

Makeup Review: Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner

Loreal Pencil Perfect EyelinerGreetings! Today marks the first day of my Friday Review series. Every Friday, I will review makeup and skin care products. Since eyeliner is an important part of your overall look, I’m reviewing Loreal Pencil Perfect Eyeliner today.

You’ll remember that I used this eyeliner in a previous post: Tutorial Tuesday: Sunrise Eyes. As you can see, this eyeliner goes on very smoothly. That’s the best part about it. It’s a creamy eyeliner that, as it says on the product itself, is a self-advancing liner. This means that you never have to sharpen it. Read the rest of this entry »
