Makeup Review: Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Blasting Waterproof Mascara

Friday, September 26th, 2008

I actually got this mascara by accident.  Or rather, my mom did.  Kind of.

You see, she tried my Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara and really liked it.  The only problem was that she wanted waterproof, and the Colossal doesn’t come that way.

So she went to our local drug store, Walgreens, and saw the Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Blasting Waterproof Mascara sitting right next to the Colossal.  And it was waterproof!  So she thought it must be by the same brand.  After all, they both have super fat packaging.

Of course, it wasn’t the same brand.  One is Maybelline and one is Cover Girl.  In the end, she gave the mascara to me.  She thought she might have had an allergic reaction, so keep that in mind for all you ladies who have sensitive eyes.

So how does this new mascara stack up?  You can find this at your local drug store for about $7.99.  This version is in “Very Black”.

Tutorial Tuesday: Lemon Lime Makeup Tutorial

Tuesday, June 10th, 2008

Mmm, I just love lemon lime. Whether it’s a food or drink, it nearly always tastes good. What a great flavor combination! Since it can be so good for flavors, why not for makeup, too? Sure, we won’t be tasting this look, but it can still look as fresh and bright as lemon lime.

I was actually inspired to do this look today because I’m wearing a green shirt. You’ll see that in the end, the green on my eyes doesn’t really match the green on my shirt.

Oops! Oh well, you can’t always help what the end result is once you use your inspiration. Right?

Get ready, because we are so about to learn the Lemon Lime Look.

Follow these steps and you should come out with a similar makeup look.

Makeup Review: Cover Girl Eye Enhancers Tropical Fusion

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Jumping on the bright makeup bandwagon, Cover Girl has come out with a new eye shadow compact called Tropical Fusion. In fact, this is so new that I can’t even find it on the Cover Girl website.

This eye shadow compact consists of bright blue, green, orange and yellow/green eye shadow.

Normally, Cover Girl plays it safe with their choice in colors. Today, we’ll see if it was worth it for them to go outside of the box.

I found this compact at CVS Pharmacy on sale, but you can usually find it in most drug stores around the $5 or $6 mark.

Here’s what I thought of the Cover Girl Eye Enhancers Tropical Fusion compact:

Tutorial Tuesday: Rainbow Eyes Makeup Tutorial

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

I don’t always like to play it safe. In fact, I like to go crazy sometimes. Many people would avoid the look I’m going to teach you today, but whatever. I think it’s cute!

I think about the fact that I have nearly every color in the rainbow when it comes to eye shadow, so why not have a look that is…well…a rainbow?

So, that’s exactly what I’m doing. Be prepared for Rainbow Eyes! This is the most colorful makeup look I’ve ever done. And you’ll get to see how I did it here.

Buckle up, because this is going to be fun.

Tutorial Tuesday: Glacial Dust Makeup Tutorial

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

I had two inspirations for today’s makeup tutorial. First, the inspiration for the name. If you’ve ever seen waters surrounding a glacier, you’ll know that it can be a really bright blue-green color. It’s amazing, like something you would see at the best ocean beaches in the world. At Glacier National Park in Montana, US, they have these waters. The water turns this color because of ‘glacial dust.’ This was the inspiration for the name of this look, as well as the general color scheme.

I also got inspiration for this look from Christine over at Temptalia. She uses MAC to get some amazing eye makeup looks, and lately she’s been doing makeup similar to what I’m going to do here.

The biggest difference is that I won’t be using MAC. Not that I don’t like it or anything. I just want to show that you can do very similar makeup techniques with many different makeup brands.

So, Read on to learn how to do this Glacial Dust makeup technique featuring blue and green shades of eye shadow. (more…)

Makeup Review: Cover Girl Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers Lip Gloss

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

WetslicksIf you’ve been watching America’s Next Top Model recently, you may have heard Cover Girl’s Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers lip gloss mentioned. Saleisha (winner of cycle 9) uses it when she goes out on go-sees! But is it actually good? I picked up the lip gloss and gave it the good ‘once over.’

The big selling point for Wetslicks Fruit Spritzers is the fruit smells. Each gloss has a different one. I purchased Lemon Splash and Raspberry Splash. They came in a two pack for $5.99 at Walgreens.

Pros: Lately, all the complaints I hear about lip glosses talk about stickiness. I know first hand about this, although I don’t always mind if they are. Don’t worry about Wetslicks. They aren’t sticky in the slightest. Although they give a super shiny sheen to your lips, you don’t have to worry about your hair getting stuck to them. The smell of these lip glosses are also amazing. Lemon Splash smells like lemon drops while the Raspberry Splash smells like watermelon bubble gum (for some reason). This lip gloss also lasts a really long time. I went around four hours without having to reapply. (more…)
