Beauty Review: L’Oreal Paris Studio Line Perfect Fix Ultra-Fine Spray Finishing Hairspray

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

Hairspray.  People rarely talk about it.  It’s an important part of some hairstyles, though.  For example, I like to crimp my hair sometimes.  (80s, anyone?) And, if I don’t use hairspray the crimped parts will start to straighten out in a few hours.

Keeping on with all the L’Oreal reviews I’ve been doing lately, I decided to try L’Oreal Paris Studio Line Perfect Fix Ultra-Fine Spray Finishing Hairspray.  You can normally find this at drug stores and online for about $4.99.

Let’s see how well this did:

Beauty Review: L’Oreal Studio Line Smoothness Glossing Cream

Friday, November 21st, 2008

I’m sure you’ve noticed in any of my pictures on this site that I have curly hair.  And you probably also noticed that it can get mighty frizzy.  It’s the plague of the curly haired lady, for sure.

The whole ‘control frizz’ industry is because of is.

To help my frizzy frizzies, I decided to try L’Oreal Studio Line Smoothness Glossing Cream.  Here’s what it says on the bottle:

Silky Shine Effect Calms Frizz

Let’s see if it actually lives up to its word.

You can find L’Oreal Studio Line Smoothness Glossing Cream online and in stores for around $4.99.

Beauty Review: L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Conditioning Treatment

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Some of the reviews I’ve done for L’Oreal hair products have been lackluster, especially when it comes to conditioner.  I thought L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Color Vive Conditioning Treatment was okay and L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Conditioner was not that great.

You would think then, that my new product, L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Conditioning Treatment, a deep conditioner, would also not be so good.

Hey now, don’t be so quick with the assumptions!

You can find this deep conditioner online and in drug stores for around $4.00 per bottle.

Beauty Review: L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Conditioner

Friday, November 14th, 2008

Again with the damaged hair.  I have it.  My bangs are a nightmare.  I think I had my flat iron cranked up too hot.

In my quest to finally stop the damage, I tried L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Shampoo last week.  This week, I’m trying its conditioner counterpart: L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Conditioner.

You can find this product anywhere that sells L’Oreal hair care products, including online and in drug stores.  While prices vary, it averages around $4.00 per bottle.

Since the shampoo got a B+, you would automatically think that the conditioner would get a similar grade.  Let’s find out:

Beauty Review: L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Color Vive Conditioning Treatment

Tuesday, November 11th, 2008

I love me some deep conditioner.  It usually works so much better than regular conditioner.  I’d rather condition a few times a week with the deep stuff than every day with the other.  But that’s just me.

I got a gold of L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Color Vive Conditioning Treatment and thought I’d give it a go.

This product supposedly works best for people with color treated hair.  I happen to be one of those people.  You can find this online and in drug and department stores.  Prices vary, but you can usually find it for around $4.00 per bottle.

Let’s see how well L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Color Vive Conditioning Treatment reviewed:

Beauty Review: L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Shampoo

Friday, November 7th, 2008

I have a confession to make: I have damaged hair.  I didn’t always.  My hair used to be fine.  Now, for some reason, my bangs are falling apart.  The hair is actually breaking off.

To remedy the situation, I decided to try L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Shampoo.  It says right on the bottle:

medium to long hair that’s damaged

That’s me!  I admit it.

You can pick up this product at drug stores and other places that sell shampoo.  Prices vary, but you can usually find it for around $4.00 a bottle.

Face of the Day - 10/27/08 - Early Voting

Monday, October 27th, 2008

What kind of makeup do you wear when you vote early for the US presidential elections?  I don’t know about you, but I did some sunrise eyes.  I guess I wanted to do something sunny and warm and optimistic.

Take a gander:

This is one of my favorite looks, and I hadn’t done it in a while.  Today seems like as good a day as any.

Here’s the products and techniques I used:

Face of the Day - 10/23/08 - Plum Smokey Eye

Thursday, October 23rd, 2008

Karen over at Makeup and Beauty Blog did a post recently with all sorts of video tutorials of how to do smokey eye makeup.  I have to admit, I’m not the best at it.  I’m trying, though!

So, that’s the point of my look for today.  I’m calling it Plum Smokey Eye for obvious reasons.  Of the tutorials at Makeup and Beauty Blog, I used the first one by MAC Pro Makeup Artist, Chantel Miller.

Here’s what I came up with:

Turned out pretty well!  At first, I didn’t like it much.  It could be smokier, but I think I was scared to go that extra mile.  What do you think?

Here’s some products I used to create today’s look:

Beauty Review: L’Oreal Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Gel Cleanser

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Here’s a nice change of pace.  Rather than reviewing makeup, I’m reviewing a beauty product.  After all, makeup isn’t the only way we can keep ourselves beautiful.

Today, I’m reviewing L’Oreal Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Gel Cleanser.  I really needed some new face wash.  I’d been using a cream cleanser and I was really yearning for something that could suds up.

I bought this product at Walgreens, but you can find it at most drug and department stores, as well as online.  The average price is $7.49 for an 8 ounce bottle.

Let’s see how well this product worked!

Face of the Day - 10/15/2008

Wednesday, October 15th, 2008

I’ve decided to start a new series here on Makeup Files.  Similar to the Tutorial Tuesdays, you’ll be seeing a neat makeup look on a regular basis.

The big difference is that the Face of the Day will have the look and what products I used without a step by step tutorial.  I won’t be doing this every day, but it’ll be pretty often.

Here’s how I look today, 10/15/2008.  I chose a yellow and orange color scheme to complement the blue top I was wearing:

And here’s what I used:
