Beauty Review: L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Shampoo

Friday, November 7th, 2008

I have a confession to make: I have damaged hair.  I didn’t always.  My hair used to be fine.  Now, for some reason, my bangs are falling apart.  The hair is actually breaking off.

To remedy the situation, I decided to try L’Oreal Paris Vive Pro Nutri Gloss Shampoo.  It says right on the bottle:

medium to long hair that’s damaged

That’s me!  I admit it.

You can pick up this product at drug stores and other places that sell shampoo.  Prices vary, but you can usually find it for around $4.00 a bottle.

Check out how this shampoo stacked up: (more…)

Beauty Review: L’Oreal Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Gel Cleanser

Friday, October 17th, 2008

Here’s a nice change of pace.  Rather than reviewing makeup, I’m reviewing a beauty product.  After all, makeup isn’t the only way we can keep ourselves beautiful.

Today, I’m reviewing L’Oreal Skin Genesis Pore Minimizing Gel Cleanser.  I really needed some new face wash.  I’d been using a cream cleanser and I was really yearning for something that could suds up.

I bought this product at Walgreens, but you can find it at most drug and department stores, as well as online.  The average price is $7.49 for an 8 ounce bottle.

Let’s see how well this product worked!

Another “Complete Eyebrow Guide” Review

Wednesday, October 8th, 2008

You may have read the recent reviews for my eyebrow ebook.  Well, there’s one more great review I can add to the list.

Miss Corrine (of the Miss Corrine blog) was kind enough to have a look at the book.  This is what she had to say:

Honestly, I was incredibly impressed. With over 30 pages, The Complete Eyebrow Guide is truly a helpful, practical and comprehensive guide on how to create stunning eyebrows. In particular, I loved the fact that it included step-by-step instructions, pictures and was so easy-to-follow - no tricky business here, my sweets! It also demonstrates exactly where your eyebrows should start, where they should arch, where they should finish, and contained a lot of excellent advice that I had never heard before - such as the fact that if you have a larger nose (ahem!), you should never, ever, ever pluck the hairs where your eyebrows begin.

Thanks Miss Corrine!

Makeup Review: Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Blasting Waterproof Mascara

Friday, September 26th, 2008

I actually got this mascara by accident.  Or rather, my mom did.  Kind of.

You see, she tried my Maybelline the Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara and really liked it.  The only problem was that she wanted waterproof, and the Colossal doesn’t come that way.

So she went to our local drug store, Walgreens, and saw the Cover Girl LashBlast Volume Blasting Waterproof Mascara sitting right next to the Colossal.  And it was waterproof!  So she thought it must be by the same brand.  After all, they both have super fat packaging.

Of course, it wasn’t the same brand.  One is Maybelline and one is Cover Girl.  In the end, she gave the mascara to me.  She thought she might have had an allergic reaction, so keep that in mind for all you ladies who have sensitive eyes.

So how does this new mascara stack up?  You can find this at your local drug store for about $7.99.  This version is in “Very Black”.

What People are Saying about the Complete Eyebrow Guide

Friday, September 12th, 2008

Reviews have been coming in for the Makeup Files ebook, The Complete Eyebrow Guide.  Check out what people had to say:

Morgan of Mrs. Priss said:

Trisha Bartle, the beauty and brains behind Makeup Files, was an absolute doll in letting me check out her latest eBook, The Complete Eyebrow Guide.  She has compiled an extensive, yet easy-to-follow guide on achieving the perfect brows.  The book goes through various hair removal options, includes step-by-step instructions and is packed full of other informative tips and tricks I would have never known.

One thing I especially appreciated was the section dedicated to grooming men’s eyebrows.  I think we can all give her a big THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for that one!

Thanks, Morgan!

Plus, Lydia, from Glamazon Beauty had this to say:

Just reading this made me think that I should be doing my eyebrows a little bit more lol, so I will deffinetly be using her tips.

I think this e-book will stick around because her tips are pretty much timeless, but she goes over some of the funny fads to, which were interesting to look at.

I also think it’s a great price because these are tips you can always go back to and keep using.

She even liked the bonus eBook as well.  Thanks, Lydia!

Website of the Week: Like.com Health and Beauty Section

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

Something I love about browsing a store in person is that you can see everything that they offer, right there in front of you.

But what do you do if you don’t have the time, and would rather do it online?

I stumbled upon a really nice website called Like.com.  They have a whole section devoted to health and beauty products.

Makeup Review: Loreal Colour Riche Star Secrets Lipcolour

Friday, September 5th, 2008

It seems that all of Loreal Paris’ lipsticks are called “Colour Riche”.  This is no exception, although it does have a special distinction.

Normally, beauty companies create a lipstick color, name it something clever, and sell it to consumers.  Loreal did something different.

The Loreal Colour Riche Star Secrets Lipcolour series has colors corresponding to celebrities.   Apparently, they had these celebrities come in, like Eva Longoria Parker and Andie MacDowell, and created a color specifically for them.  Then they’re selling it to us.

I purchased Loreal Colour Riche Star Secrets Lipcolour in Penelope’s Red for $8.99 in a drug store.  That’s Penelope Cruz’s shade of red.

But how did it stand up to testing?

Makeup Review: e.l.f. Brightening Eye Color Eye Shadow Quad

Friday, July 11th, 2008

elfshadow I normally don’t like to recommend things that I haven’t tried, especially if they seem questionable.  I came across a makeup website selling eye shadow for a dollar.  At first I was thrilled, and then I read some mixed reviews.

Then I actually found the eye shadow in a store (Big Lots) and bought it.  And now, of course, I will review it.

The eye shadow? e.l.f. Brightening Eye Color eye shadow quad in Nouveau Neutrals.  e.l.f. stands for “Eyes Lips Face”, which is usually what we’re making up with cosmetics.

I got this quad at Big Lots at a discounted price as part of a set (with eyeliner that I’ll review next week) so I got it cheaper than normal.  But you can find it on their website for $1.

Now, it’s time to get down to the real deets:

Makeup Review: Maybelline The Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara

Friday, July 4th, 2008

colossal There has been so much buzz about the new Maybelline mascara, Colossal Volum’ Express, that it’s really hard to ignore.  (It’s so new, in fact, that they don’t even have it on their official website.)  Why are people talking about it?  What makes it special?  The packaging?  The product?

I decided to get down to the nitty gritty, and I bought it.

You may recall a previous mascara review I did for Maybelline Define-A-Lash Volume Mascara and how I didn’t really like it.  Don’t worry, I’m not letting that alter my perspective of this new product.  I’m not that biased.

I bought the Maybelline Colossal Volum’ Express Mascara, in Glam Black at Walgreens.  All the tags said it cost $6.99, which I imagine is the regular retail price.  After I went through the line and paid for everything, the bill seemed a little low.  Apparently the mascara rang up at $4.99.  Hmmm…a magical secret deal!  The best kind.

Anyway, let’s get down to business.

Makeup Review: N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner

Friday, June 13th, 2008

Lately, I’ve been focusing a lot of my attention on liquid eyeliner. I’ve written posts about it and I’ve done some makeup looks featuring this kind of thing as well.

Since my favorite brand of liquid eyeliner (by Loreal) was all out, I had to use one of my backup liners: N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner in Jet Black. I wasn’t expecting it to be very good.

Want to know how it fared? Read on for the makeup review of the N.Y.C. Liquid Eyeliner.
